Hey guys,

So I am having issues this month with paying rent. My rent and utilities recently went up the past couple months. Luckily I was able pay last months rent by dipping into my savings (not a lot but enough to help in case of an emergency). Unfortunately I didn’t really get to save much before it ran out.

While I have the majority of my rent saved from my wage I still need about $200 to cover the rest of my rent and my utilities.

If you can donate that would be really helpful. Of course if you cannot I understand.

Please share and spread this post around if possible.

Thank you very much!

anexperimentallife:

Obviously antisemitism is the primary driving force behind many Americans not wanting to take a close look at the Holocaust, but that antisemitism is intertwined with the “just world” “rugged individualist” “bootstrap” “anyone can do anything if they work hard enough” philosophy we Americans get shoved down our throats practically from birth, and which is–counterintuitively–also bound up with the same sort of victim mentality that the Nazis preyed upon to rise to power. (I’ll get to that in a minute.)

The just world school of thought holds that people, in general, get what they deserve. If you fail, you have only yourself to blame. Ask any American school child who was bullied, and they’ve heard adults tell them, “Well, you must have done something to make them bully you.”

The truth of the Holocaust as shown in Maus, though, demands that you either a) abandon that school of thought and acknowledge that the virtue (however you define virtue) and hard work and a can-do attitude cannot save everyone, or b) you must decide that those who perished were somehow not worthy of surviving.

The second is, of course, reprehensible, but those are your only two honest choices. And many American politicians have, in fact, blamed German Jews for their fate, claiming that if they had “fought back harder,” they’d have never been rounded up. (And contrary to popular belief in the US, many Jews didfight back, quite effectively. If not for antisemitism, the stories of Jewish resistance fighters would be legendary.)

“Why do you think that never happened in America?” these politicians and pundits say, refusing to acknowledge that is has, in fact, happened more than once in the United States (and is still happening). Would these same politicians have supported Americans of Japanese descent taking up arms against the US government when the US put them in concentration camps during World War II? How about the Trail of Tears? How do they feel about the ongoing war of genocide against the Native American population? Should Native Americans once again take up arms against the US government? How about Black Americans?

You get the idea. (I’m drifting, I know–If this were a formal essay instead of a stream of consciousness rant begun at 5 am because I couldn’t sleep from thinking about it, I’m sure I’d get points taken off.)

But Spiegleman sums this up more elegantly than I.

image

Just like many Germans in the 1930s and 1940s, a large percentage of Americans have imagined a third choice; if things are hard, it mustbe because they are victims of some all-powerful force.

Now, in a sense, they may be–capitalism (the precursor to and incubator of fascism) and its agents victimize all but a lucky few. These people cannot assign blame to capitalism, though, despite the overwhelming evidence that it and its agents are behind the bulk of their misery, because they’ve been taught that capitalism is the only way they can ever “get ahead” in life.

So who’s to blame? Just who is preventing them from “succeeding” in life? They can’t blame the rich and powerful they worship, of course.

So for Americans in the 2020s, just like Germans in the 1930s and 1940s, it must be that the entire worldis ranged against them, led by… who, I wonder?

Oh, of course–it must be the Jews. (And now the Muslims.) The Black people. The Indigenous. The Arabs. The Asians. (Because although there are exceptions, the majority of those in this mindset think of America as a white country, just as they thought of Germany as a white country.)

It must be the LGBTQA+ community. (It is no accident that the books in those famous Nazi bonfires were volumes of LGBTQA+ literature and research.) It must be Everyone Who Is Not Us. Everyone not of Our Nationality, Our Specific Brand of Whiteness, Our Specific Religion.

(There’s a reason that conservative Christians in the US have tried to rewrite history to hide that Nazism was a conservative Christian movement that only turned against the Lutheran Church when Lutheran clergy refused to follow famous antisemite and father of Protestantism Martin Luther’s admonition to persecute Jews the way the Nazis demanded.)

In order for white nationalism to survive, it must convince its adherents that–against all evidence–they are the truevictims. That their oppression of others is “defense against white genocide.” That’s the only way they can reconcile their imagined superiority with their actual circumstance.

But see, if we teach our children the truth of books like Maus, the truth that might does not–despite US pretension otherwise–make right, that the answer to their problems is not blaming minorities, that the answer is in accepting the Other and banding together with them in common cause, to refuse to be divided and turned against the one who is Not Like Us.

Because regardless of your ethnicity, religion, gender, orientation, and so on, the only true otheris the one who would destroy you for not being their ideal of a perfect, abled, cishet, person of the “correct” race and religion.

And now because I know there will inevitably be the usual fascists and neonazis whining that they deserve tolerance, too, I present you with the words of philosopher Karl Popper, who, much as Spiegleman before, makes my point far more elegantly than I could.

Yesterday Toronto held its 5th annual March to Close All Slaughterhouses! We were just one of the many marches organized in dozens of cities across five continents! Once again in Toronto we had an incredible turnout with about 800
people standing up and raising their voices for the rights of the animals whose own voices are violently silenced. This video was taken during the “die-in”, in which activists paused their marching to lay on the ground as a way to symbolically represent the deaths of the trillions of nonhuman persons killed each year for food alone, and to be with them in solidarity, as the actual recorded screams of animals inside slaughterhouses as they were dying and watching their friends die, were played over a loud speaker for all to hear. So not only did the activists scream at the top of their lungs and from the bottom of their hearts on behalf of the animals, they literally broadcast their unheard screams for all to hear, thus in some small, yet incredibly powerful way, giving them their voices back.
Here are the lyrics to the song, “Liberation” by Ernesto which was sung at the beginning of the march:
“Let me be free; free from your tyranny; it’s all I’ve ever wanted; it’s all I’ve ever wanted…. everyday they will try to convince you that humane murder is justified, but believe me I don’t want to die…. Be the voices of the silenced… let love guide you towards justice; cause I want to be happy, safe, and free; just happy, safe, and free….”

Hi, I’m Erin, does anyone have $10 for my depression and ocd meds and $15 for dinner for 5 adults, 2 kids? My meds are very important to help me function. The kids are hungry now and I don’t know what to do. I was hospitalized not too long back and am recovering from the mental trauma of being revived and having been placed on a ventilator. I don’t know what to do. We’re going through a very hard time. A dime or dollar would help us out. I know everyone’s going through a hard time at the moment. Anything is appreciated, be it a penny or a dollar. Thank y'all . No one has to donate if they don’t want to or can’t, it’s okay! Hate will be blocked.

Yesterday (June 10th 2017), Toronto held its fifth March to Close All Slaughterhouses, along with dozens of other cities across five continents! Once again we had an incredible turnout with about 800 people participating!

As with the years before, we marched down all the major streets at the city’s core. We also did the die-in, where the activists laid down on the ground to symbolically represent the trillions of animals we tragically lose to the animal agriculture industry every single year, and to show solidarity. As we lay silent on the ground, screams recorded from dying animals inside actual slaughterhouses is broadcasted over a loud-speaker. Most likely, anyone passing by has never even seen the front of a slaughterhouse, let alone heard the horrific sounds that resound from inside; this is intentional on the part of the industry because, as Paul McCartney famously said, “if slaughterhouses had glass walls we would all be vegetarian”. This is one of the reasons for why the die-ins are such incredibly powerful demonstrations; they bring attention to the voices of those who are violently silenced. A newer addition to the march was the inclusion of a Direct Action Now disruption inside a “Whole Foods”, where some of the activists walked in and around the store while holding up their signs depicting the disturbing and heart-shattering reality that was the life of the animal whose flesh a customer is contemplating purchasing. These actions are called “disruptions” because they do precisely that, they disrupt the “normal” act of shopping for animal products, and in so doing, disrupt the speciesist mindset that allows for this shopping in the first place. Finally, towards the end of the march, a memorial was held for all the beautiful angels who have fallen victim to this incredibly cruel and violent system we have developed,.during which flowers and other items were symbolically laid beside pictures of a few of these lovely beings, who represented the plight of their entire species. All in all, it was an incredibly moving and powerful event, and we are CERTAIN that we planted seeds of compassion in many minds, and that at least one person will make a change in their lifestyle in order to show love, the love that we know each and every one of you has, even if it is currently buried deep inside, to all persons, whether animal or human.

Late in the night, on May 4th, individuals acting in the spirit of vengeance visited the home of Michael Fortier on Chester Avenue. Mr. Fortier was a federal cabinet minister under Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Today, he is the vice-chairman of capital markets at the Royal Bank of Canada. Tucked away in his big house in the Town of Mount-Royal (a wealthy Montreal neighborhood separated by a long wall from the poor and exploited), Mr. Fortier no doubt feels at ease with his employer’s decision to continue funding the Coastal GasLink pipeline (or any other disgusting project financed by RBC).

As glaciers melt and drought, fire and famine spread, Mr. Fortier may think that his money and connections will protect him, his children and his grandchildren. But the ecologically dispossessed will know the names of those responsible. He must understand that no one is safe amid this storm.

On the night in question, flames spread from an incendiary device to the engine block of his Jaguar, parked in front of his home.

This act is in solidarity with Wet’suwet’en land defenders and all those who fight the extractive industry.

On April 20th some anarchists on occupied Nisqually and Squaxin land took to the night, armed with a bottle of brake fluid and a can of expanding spray foam to carry out an act of solidarity with the ongoing resistance of Wet’su’weten land defenders and their supporters. The fight against CGL and its funders has been long and inspiring, and one that we feel needs to be more supported, especially through direct anarchist tactics.

The colonial project is ever expanding, and its allies and funders are in every neighborhood and on every street. These are our enemies, and the makers of artificial deserts. They must be attacked– by any means and at any given opportunity, no matter how big or small the enemy or the action may seem.

We do not expect this small action to stop the Leviathan and bring about healing to this near destroyed planet, but we hope to channel the spirits of this land, the lifeblood of all water, and the goblins of anarchy. We want to inspire destruction to all manifestations of colonial powers and institutions. We need it. The struggle on Wet’suwet’en territory is one that has explicitly called for and employed anarchist tactics, and we encourage you all to heed that call and support their actions through your own.

We fed the machine brake fluid, filled its mouths with spray foam. It was easy.

May Day is right around the corner. If you can’t get out to the yintah, we encourage you to fight where you stand.

Long live Anarchy! Long live Wet’suwet’en sovereignty! Long live the fight for Turtle Island!
