Corona

The world has changed rapidly. All measures possible are taken to reduce the pressure on healthcare and to slow the spreading of the virus down until we have found good medication and eventually a vaccin.

The Netherlands is no exception, we are one of the worse hit countries. My husband, who works in mental healthcare research, works from home now. As the daycare is closed, our little son who turned 2 past week is full time at home now too. All public places are closed, so it is basically the three of us in our apartment with a good walk every now and then. He is doing great and we are all healthy and I feel very thankful for that.

However, inevitably I have considerably less time to work. I can barely get to the amount time to make new pieces and keep up with social media and messages.

Added to this my little business is very internationally oriented. 95% of all pieces ship to all over the world, about 2/3 to the US. All shipping restrictions of different contries are rapidly changing, sometimes by the day.

As good customer service and guaranteed delivery are some of my highest priotities I have decided to put my shops on vacation mode for the time being. I simply can’t promise something today as I do not know what new rules tomorrow will bring.

I will give priority to my family, to stay safe & healthy. But I won’t lay down my work and won’t dissapear! I will keep on making & designing new pieces and I stay in touch through social media, blogs and so on :)

First I wish to say to you all: Take care, stay safe, reach out for help if needed and stay in (online) contact <3 An extra big hug to everyone who is in serious trouble through this situation, be it financially, healthwise or in any other way <3  Everyone currently working in healthcare, people who are in any other way are helping to fight this virus, people who work to keep things going… thank you, you all are awesome <3

Somnia Romantica will keep its shop open for now. As long as the postal offices are open I will do so, unless there is a full lockdown. I work from my home, so I can keep creating new pieces.
I will also keep my supplies shop Somnia Lace Boutique open.

Having our almost 2 years old son full time at home now, I wish to give him the attention he deserves (and demands XD ). This means I have about half the working time I normally have (doing shifts with my love).

My focus will lay on creating new pieces, making photos and keeping my social media platforms alife where possible. If I temporarily close my shop, if there will be a full lockdown, I will try to keep up at least with my social media platforms, as I think the online community and even just posting some pretty picturs is more than important in these isolated times.

What will change?

I am sorry to conclude that during this crisis I can’t keep up with my Youtube channel. I will pick up Youtube again whenever Ezra goes to daycare again, no idea when that will be. But I sure enjoyed making my last video, so stay tuned ^^

My brand new drawings & illustration shop that I was just starting up, will be closed until more tranquil times, when I have time again to keep up with 3 webshops ^^ I will keep on drawing and I will post results on @marjoleinturinart ^^

I had this fabric some years back as backdrop for photos and always kept it. Recently I decided to make it into a Victorian inspired outfit paired with lots of vintage Italian bridal lace ^^

Fwoosh :) New shrug with black angel wings ^^ A fabric base which is sort of in between velour and suedine. Sleeves made of bridal tule hemmed with lots of pleated black lace. Shoulder pannels made of French vintage lace ^^

Compilation: 3 of my pieces, all Art Nouveau inspired gowns in powerdy shades with a high lace neckline and lots of ruffles in the skirt, and in general a ridiculous amount of lace :)
