I think J. K. Rowling created an amazing character such as Draco without even realising it - as she said multiple times things like “you’re loving him too much, actually he’s not a good and innocent guy”.
I don’t agree with her (but when do I, honestly) because I believe that Draco’s beauty as a character lies exactly there, in his innocence.
He’s just a boy grown up craving his father’s approval, eager to please a man who never shows to be proud of him, not even lightly satisfied with him, a man who knows how to show his love only through money and duties, a man who gives as examples to be followed his haughtiness, coldness and disdain towards others.
This has been taught to Draco - that if you’re not a corruptive asshole you can’t reach your goals, that those who are not Purebloods deserve nothing, that love can be bought and sold, but can never be a free gift.
Though. Draco is a though.
Because everyone always points out how he’s a coward but noone ever thinks about the fact that Lord Freaking Voldemort lived in his house for one year, that his family had been death threatened as a punishment until he accepted to kill the only wizard who could have kept him safe, that while other students were learning how to cast an Expelliarmus his aunt was teaching him how to cast a Cruciatus.
Though, Draco lowed his wand in front of Dumbledore.
Though, Draco didn’t say Harry’s name, at the Malfoy Manor, he didn’t sold him out, he didn’t save his own ass but did something nobody never taught him - he helped someone without asking for something in return.
Draco was manipulated so many times and for so long. They put in his head so much shit and took anything they didn’t care about - they took his enthusiasm for Quidditch, for his artistic talent, for his cleverness in every single school subject, they took his sarcasm, his irony, his eccentricity, they took everything from him.
They put a Black Mark on his left arm.
Though.
Though, Draco Malfoy is the only innocent Death Eater in the Harry Potter saga.
