ANYWAYS…. this is a very late submission for shidgemas! it’s for the prompt that took place on the 16th, “first”, and i decided to depict their first kiss LMAO i always saw it happening while they’re in pajamas and idk why it’s just so fitting to me
i imagine this taking place somewhere between seasons 1 and 2 where shiro and pidge have been sleeping in the same room for a while to ease their anxieties, and during one particularly emotional night pidge just GOES FOR IT without aiming, misses, and ends up passionately making out with shiro’s upper lip to which he responds by mentally blacking out LMFAO

I think it’s really fascinating how from the moment Steve woke up he was immediately hit with that Soldier Identity ™
When he’s in the room with the “nurse,” earlier in the scene, she calls him Captain Rogers, which is a respect thing, you refer to people as their ranks in acknowledgement and such, but I would have to look more into the bedside manner rules to see if that was what would happen in a hospital situation
Again, we see more of the Soldier Identity when Fury says “At ease, Soldier,” giving Steve his own rank and using that to gain trust/Steves compliance.
In the scene, Fury calls him Cap, a somewhat more personal version of Captain, like they’re already close enough for that. I think it is really telling of how he is viewed immediately, with the idea that all the people who call him Cap right away (along with other nicknames) are acting like they know him. In some cases (like Capsicle), it’s not really a personal joking thing, but more of a mocking thing. If it’s a sign of respect to call him Captain, or Captain Rogers, than what exactly are the people who nickname that thinking? Unless you know someone, you typically aren’t going to give them a nickname right away. Most people don’t meet random veterans and drop formalities like that, or call a doctor “Doc” on their first visit.
Within a minute of talking to Steve on the street, Fury has asserted his authority and pretended that they were friendly equals. He puts a huge emphasis on “Soldiers work,” telling Steve how “the world could still use a man like you, Cap.” They shake hands, right there in the street, and it may as well have been a contract; Steve was going to be a Soldier for them, he was going to trust there word and do their bidding. “There’s a *place* here for you.”
I think this goes to show immediately how the 70 years of propaganda is affecting Steve on a personal level; people think they know him because they’ve grown up hearing about him, learning about him, but it’s just like a normal celebrity in this situation, people can list off a million facts about a person but that doesn’t mean they have met them, or are involved in their lives.
Let’s talk more specifically Fury’s line about “Soldiers work.”
Steve is a soldier, he’s fought in WW2 for two/three years at this point, he’s earned his rank and title, but this really shows me that Steve was going to be put to work as soon as possible, he was going to be an asset to Shield, they had wonderful plans for what he could do for them. He’s a soldier, he was going to do the soldier work. Whenever people refer to Steve as a soldier though, I always think of what Erskine said, the infamous “not a perfect soldier, but a good man”
I think that if these first like three (3) minutes awake are going to be setting a standard for how the people of this century see him, and it is already leaving him zero room to just be Steve Rogers. He’s left as a 2D character, a man who can’t be killed and therefore has immediate purpose. I’m glad they cut this extra dialogue, it’s not a very good look for him to be put to work moments after asking how he is even alive in the first place.
Steve has been buried under Captain America Propaganda, and now most everyone has their own expectations and vision of him in their heads. It’s impossible to live up to, and he’s put in a place where the perfect soldier is all he is supposed to be

It’s Cap they’re buddying up with, appealing too, and trying to get on their side. Steve isn’t part of the equation.

He’s been awake for a few minutes tops, escaped from a fake room, had a brawl with some agents, ran into Times Square and was then immediately told there was more work he had to do
For Captain America, the work is never finished. There’s always more to do, more orders to follow, that’s what Captain America is for, right? He’s the super soldier, he fights. But Steve? Steve is the man who ran into 2012 New York City and had to deal with the reality his world and his people were gone.
But they don’t see Steve Rogers. They just see the soldier
The neon lights from the local gas station seemed blinding when accompanied by the near-velvety night sky, but the cherry slush in your hands was your main focus as of now. A blush settled on your cheeks as you looked to the right to see your best friend, her figure looking almost angelic when highlighted by the intense light of the corner store. She gave a coy smile that, as usual, you returned in a heartbeat.
Yukako Yamagishi had never felt so conflicted. Her emotions weren’t natural according to society, but she couldn’t help herself from imagining how soft your lips must’ve felt, or how amazing your (e/c) eyes were. She was very sure that you had felt the same for her due to the bashful expression that always crossed your face whenever she smiled at you.
Staring at the sugary raspberry drink on her lap, she slowly inched her hand towards yours and grasped it. You jolted, but once you realized it was only Yukako, you blushed heavily and laced your fingers with hers. There the two of you sat in the car in a comfortable silence until Yukako broke it.
“(y/n),” the girl began, “we shouldn’t feel like something forbidden. We both love each other, and that is all the criteria needed for a proper relationship.”
You turned your head and caressed her cheek. You then moved her face towards you and pressed your lips against hers. The taste of the slush and strawberry lip gloss was intoxicating, and you just couldn’t seem to get enough. When you pulled away, she gave the brightest smile and leaned back into the car seat with a blissful sigh. Things would definitely be alright between the two of you.
God that “ants are wasps!” post drives me crazy. Just total misunderstanding of phylogenetics turned into misinformation. The unqualified bug people on this site really need to stop sometimes.

now that i’m through with the whole thing i’ve been thinking a lot about the dynamics that exist in this extreme vacuum of (male-centric) humanity. hickey, by sheer force of will, has perhaps the strongest pull of the lot. he’s proactive in an environment that often appears to leave you with very few choices. the loophole here is to do what’s necessary, to focus on “practicals.” if nature (and the world at large) is unforgiving, then you’d best follow suit, forget morality and opt for ruthlessness as strong as you can muster.
despite the importance given to the hickey/crozier relationship, and despite hickey’s sense of betrayal from one he saw as an equal, his true counterpoint is not, in fact, francis, but goodsir. after all, even francis is aware of the boatload of sins he committed on the expedition. but francis sees that goodsir is clean. goodsir, whose distress it was up to the very end that lady silence had formed a bad opinion of england from the white men who trespassed into her home, killed her friends, and did just as badly to each other. yes, it reads naive, but his is the code of the scholarly gentleman, of a man with a deep respect for life. “practicals” leave out beauty and wonder, decency and honor. hickey, meanwhile, knows there are no decent men. only dead men, or live men.
ultimately, it’s goodsir who makes the definitive play, goodsir who goes toe to toe with hickey, albeit posthumously. and in the middle of these two opposites is tuunbaq, a creature meant to balance the scales. francis crozier is not the hero of the story, though by awareness of his guilt, he certainly exhibits heroism in an attempt to atone for his mistakes. we can’t forget that this is a story about colonialism. hickey does not die because he is evil, he dies because he was presumptuous enough to try to claim something to which he had no right. francis is not the indomitable force of self-interest that hickey was, nor is he, like goodsir, an example of the equally powerful, equally human desire to wonder at the unknown. he is not like sir john or fitzjames either, who are men of the empire through and through, in it because they have something to prove to a “Society” that is often petty and cruel (fitzjames lives long enough to recognize it as vanity).
francis’s role is to witness. he is a deeply flawed man, but he knows it, and he takes responsibility for it. he kills tuunbaq, and he recognizes that he has killed something important and irreplaceable. i think he stays behind to remember, no matter how painful the remembrance is. and silna is out there too somewhere, remembering, the only other person who knows what happened, who could possibly understand. they are the series’ memory.
francis’s misdirection at the end of the episode will buy some time, but we know, and he knows, of the boundlessness of greed and the curiosity of men.
and tuunbaq, the equalizer, is dead—dead because francis killed it.
it’s only a matter of time before many other important and irreplaceable things are discovered, misunderstood, exploited, killed. there is a helplessness in francis and silna’s situations, a loneliness that comes at the end of a story full of isolation and impending doom. but there has also been friendship, and courage, and brotherhood… along with hubris and cold-blooded cruelty. francis and silna have the strength to acknowledge both sides equally, and in the end, i think we’re meant to as well.
so i’ve got like 8,500 words to write in two days but I’ve been struck by an idea for a one shot that just won’t go away why does my brain do this to me ugh tarlos smut is inescapable
so this is the point where it’s evident I have no self control I guess.
He needs to bury the depth of his emotions and resist the way Carlos is stripping back his walls, dissolving the mortar and pulling them down, brick by brick. He needs to lose himself in the incandescent feeling of Carlos’ tongue or his lips or his fingertips. He needs to chase the high of being with someone who is so out of his reach and so easy to touch at the same time.
He doesn’t deserve it. Tonight, he’ll take it anyway.
