Anime/Cartoons eyes New Style

Come avete potuto capire, in questo periodo sto effettuando dei cambiamenti di stile ai miei personaggi. La scorsa volta avete avuto modo di vedere i cambi legati ai corpi dei personaggi, con il post con i characters di Dirk e Daphne presi dal mondo di Dragon’s Lair.
Oggi, vi mostro come sto variando lo stile degli OCCHI (una delle caratteristiche principali del mio stile) esclusivamente nel mondo dei cartoni animati, soprattutto negli anime.

Questa scelta è nata perché secondo me, i miei occhi classici, “rovinavano” molti personaggi, tanti dei quali erano proprio i protagonisti principali delle serie animate.

Quindi ricapitolando, le persone reali, continueranno ad essere rappresentate da me nel modo classico (ma con le varianti indicate nel post precedente, dedicato ai cambiamenti)… Mentre gli anime e quei cartoni animati che utilizzano degli occhi molto caratteristici, verranno da me illustrati in questo nuovo modo.

Spero che la mia arte continui a portarvi le gioie e le emozioni che fino ad oggi ho cercato di trasmettervi.

Un paio di giorni fa ho pubblicato i 2 protagonisti di Dragon’s Lair per mostrarvi come sto cambiando alcune caratteristiche dei miei personaggi in questi giorni. Ovviamente, subito dopo quel post, mi è presa la voglia di realizzare un Artwork completo del medesimo videogame… ed eccolo qui!

PS: La curiosità di questa illustrazione è che mentre la stavo completando, ho scoperto casualmente, per la gioia dei fan della serie come me, che Netflix è in trattativa per realizzarne il primo Live Action, con protagonista il mitico Ryan Reynolds!

È tempo di cambiamenti…
in questo periodo, in cui sto realizzando parecchi videogames, ho deciso di effettuare dei leggeri cambi di stile per rinnovare un po’ i miei personaggi, per provare qualcosa di nuovo e a dir la verità, per disegnare al meglio personaggi con delle caratteristiche poco riproducibili con il mio vecchio stile. Dirk e Daphne sono i primi che vi mostro. La base resta sempre la stessa, ho deciso di ingrandire i piedi, iniziare a differenziare un po’ di più gli occhi e la forma delle teste dei personaggi, per ultimo aumentare i dettagli delle mani e sfinare i corpi nei soggetti femminili.
Non sono caratteristiche definitive, ma credo di voler continuare a procedere in questa direzione.

Two things I really recommend for working on long projects:

  1. Keep a daily log! One thing I really struggled with for the first year of development was this feeling like I was getting nothing done. Logging what you do every day can give you something tangible to look at and see “oh wait no progress has been made” and it makes a world of a difference.
  2. Make your log as fucking god-awful-ugly as you humanly can. Maybe it’s just the way art school poisoned how I think about sketchbooks, but it can be really tempting to want to make your logs an art object on their own. Resist all temptations to have proper grammar, spelling, form. Settle for coherent and move on. If you set a precedent of fancy logs with headers and pictures you slowly build log-making into another task rather than a reward for completing one, and then you won’t do it! Or at least I won’t lol. I like to type into the most basic notepad file possible so I don’t even have the OPTION to bold text.

Well, the piece still needs some tweaks, but I’ll lay it aside for a while.
I tested a lot of colour variations, but I think that it will stay in brown. For a reason: even if the colour doesn’t match 100% the traditional post apocalyptic theme and in addition, the so far used Sirius colours seem to be much cooler than the warm brown palette, it’s a good contrast to the blue/greyish look. Since I plan to create an “on earth” level, it would be weird to fly on a blue/greyish earth … not to mention that it would be boring to see the same colours all the time. 
But nothing is carved in stone yet.

Even if it took me much longer than expected to create this picture, i look forward to the next story elements.

Speaking of “story”: I had known these things before, but I’m not a good storyteller. I’ll see what happens …

Sirius Rising : Status Quo

Every once in a while, I’ll post (or reblog) here something about the shmup game I’m currently developing in coop with Andrew Nixon (code).

The art work shown above is one of the first images for the game’s story introduction. I plan to create a couple more of them in the upcoming months.
Overall the game is progressing well. Slowly but steady the game becomes more and more playable. However, it will still take us a while until we can release an alpha version … we are not in a rush! ;)
