初夏に咲いた桐の花が実を結ぶ季節。

桐は木目美しく良質な木材として有名ですが、
中国では「桐の木にだけ鳳凰が宿る」とされ天帝思想の象徴でした。
日本では、かつては皇室ゆかりの者だけが使用できる特別な意匠であり、
天皇家の副紋でしたが、武家社会以降は多くの武家の家紋として広まりました。

After a good little while without posting anything (sorry, friends) it seems like I’ve pushed through my art block and I’ve done three sketches this week that I’m pretty happy with! It helped that I was sick and stuck on the couch for a few days. When in art block, what does Katie draw? Fancy ladies, fairies, or mermaids. I’ve done two fancy ladies and a fairy this week, so stay tuned!
