A.Z. Fell & Co. is closed again at 10 a.m. on a Monday? Psh, so is the public library and like 12 restaurants. That’s nothing new.
A girl who bases every life decision she makes on something written in an obscure, old book? Lemme guess, she’s “college educated,” right? And a millennial? Typical. She’s probably a liberal, too. *dramatic eye roll*
An older man with a nipple fetish who accuses people of being witches? Really, you gotta try harder if you wanna be the town weirdo, Mister.
The lady who holds seances in her sitting room andruns a kinky sex business? Still not the craziest I’ve seen. Sorry.
The sky raining fish? I mean, it’s not hurricane season so that’s a little strange for this time of year, but I can’t say it’s too unbelievable.
Alien sightings? *sigh* Reggie’s on the bathsalts again, isn’t he?
A massive tornado? Well I mean, that’s not Florida’s usual thing, but knowing our weather and how utterly ridiculous it is, I’d believe it.
Guy driving a burning antique car down the highway? He’s probably just on the way to the mechanic. Yield the right of way to him and wish him luck, my dude.
Potentially possessed woman with a crazy huge firework gun? Mate, have you never been to Miami?
Literally nothing in this series would be too out of the ordinary here. Anyone who has ever been to Florida or even read one of those “Florida Man” news articles knows this.
As someone who grew up in Florida, this entire list isso true that my reactions to some of them were:
- Dude if you knew the New Age and/or Artistic crowd in this area, Snake Eyes wouldn’t even be Weird, people would just be like “omg WHERE did you get those contacts, they’re AWESOME?? Love your sunglasses by the way, what brand are those?”
- Given the way Southern Baptists sometimes get, the fact I once had a customer worry about me when I mentioned trying “meditation” because she thought it would make me more accessible to the devil(??), and the fact I had a former boss who once tried to tell a fellow employee to her FACE that her diabetes (which she was BORN WITH, mind) was a Punishment From God………yeah the man yelling about witches isn’t even a stretch. That is just a Wednesday in Florida.
- Re: medium who also runs a sex business: I mean aside from the fact I literally know of at least three places to get a tarot reading done in and of itself, dude, there was a cafe a friend of mine used to go to that had a private sex club meeting there in the middle of the night every month or week or whatever before they went under, I’m not remotely blinking at either half of this one??
- Re: sky raining fish and a Massive Tornado: Well that’s just Barefoot Bay weather, silly! Bit… odd this far inland, but haha, what you gon’ do, huh? # climate change.
And of course, going back towards the front of the list:

Dude, there’s a crepe* place I wanted to try again so badly after they moved, only to discover it’s suddenly consistently closed on, get this - not just Mondays (which at least isn’t uncommon and makes sense, since Mondays are comparatively slow for most restaurants), but also WEDNESDAYS(?? whY???).
There aremultiple restaurants I’ve been to in Florida that only open at 3pm, or which close for an hour or two between Lunch and Dinner, or are ONLY open for breakfast and/or lunch periods, and perhaps the most confusing is I have seen a cafe that LITERALLY ran on bankers’ hours (9 to 5 on weekdays and Saturdays, closed Sunday, usually closed for federal holidays).
So yeah Aziraphale’s shop hours would be aggravating but not even remotely be questioned. That’s just Small Businesses In The South for ya.
Additional bonus: neither Aziraphale nor Crowley’s fashion sense would be out of place anywhere from Orlando to Miami. Crowley in particular would just look like a hipster in the Art Scene, ESPECIALLY driving a 1930s Bentley around.
*Yes, really, a crepe place. And no, the slight irony of this coming up on a Good Omens related post does not escape me.
YOU’VE HEARD OF WINGFIC, GET READY FOR THE NEW WEIRD THING: NESTING FIC.
So I was inflicting myself on @thebibliosphere‘s DMs the other day, as is occasionally my wont, and I was telling her about this new ridiculous headcanon that I have, to wit: Angels engage in nesting behaviors as an elaborate mating ritual.
“Joy,” I said. “Joy. Joy. Joy JoyJoy.That’s what the bookshop is. It’s a nest,Joy. That’s why he’s spent 200 years filling it with things he likes. That’s why he gets super fucking mad when people try to come in and buy bits of it off him.”
I am extremely committed to sparkle motion, so I have prepared for you, darlings, several different angles that one could take on a nesting!fic if one were going to write it.
This is EXACTLY the kind of wacky premise I mean when I say “I kind of love ‘crack treated seriously’ fics”
Like, the premise is so out there seemingly on the face of it that it’s OBVIOUSLY a Crack Fic Premise™, but if you played it completely, utterly straight (or, as “straight” as a good GO fic would be anyway make of that sentence what you will), it would be, I think, pretty damn enjoyable.
I look forward to the weirdass tags and trends this inspires on AO3 lol
@itsclydebitches I will not only give you validation for this FREAKING PRICELESS fic but inform you I literally loved it so much I had a sudden paranoid fear tumblr would eradicate it either through bot nonsense or as it, too, went the way of Az’s book shop some day, so I literally archived it on Archive.org (successfully?? I think?? have they stopped freaking blocking it omg maybe??) to protect it in case that happens, hope that’s okay but it is a TREASURE I did not want us to lose??

I can’t stop thinking about this. Like. OK. He knows there’s a lot of fanfiction– did he read it, or did he just check the ratings and summaries? Did he read it as a fan, before he was cast? or after? Did he go on ao3? Did he go on LJ? Did he just google “Good Omens fanfiction” and see what came up (Probably fanfiction.net)? Have I read the same fanfiction that influenced Michael Sheen? Have you?
@runawaymarbles so, apparently (so say the screencaps going around tumblr anyway), supposedly, someone on Twitter literally @’d him and asked if he had read a SPECIFIC fic, and gave the AO3 link
Sheen’s response was simply “A classic.”
That’s it. That’s all he allegedly said, apparently?? “A classic.”
Which…unless this is faked (I don’t think it is?? I haven’t checked actual twitter because I don’t like their navigation bleh)….this implies he definitely has read that PARTICULAR fic. And enjoyed it. A lot. (I hope the fic’s author, if they know of this, is pleased rather than just hideously embarassed or flustered lol)
But like…in those TWO WORDS… implies also one of the following:
Possibility 1.) He read it only because they linked it and so why not, but he STILL READ IT, even though he no longer had to do “research for the role”. Meaning he’s reading it FOR FUN??
Possibility 2.) He read it PREVIOUSLY, which means at least one of the sites he was reading on is/was likely AO3, unless it’s one that is archived at AO3 but previously posted or cross-posted to other places like FFN or LJ
Possibility 2.5) Implied in the fact he called it a “classic”…this may depend on the exact fic, which I don’t know off the top of my head and I’m new to the fandom proper for this book/show, so I have NO IDEA whether this is a NEW “classic” that he simply approves of…or…..OR, it’s an older well-known fic (I mean, it was rec’d by someone?? so??), that he read previously POSSIBLY LIKE BACK WHEN FANDOM WAS MOSTLY ON LIVEJOURNAL AND PERSONAL SITES AND SUCH which, wow that’s a thought
Anyway, I somewhat doubt 2.5 because really what are the odds, but it’s a potential possibility and really, either of the first two options have got to to be the case (though obviously, they’re mutually exclusive, so it’s one or the other)
Either way, he definitely, openly, without any hint of embarassment and with full joy enjoys fanfic of the book/series, officially and openly seems to favor Ineffable Husbands/Air Conditioning as a ship, and has no trouble expressing both of those things. One of us!!!
This must be giving some “older” fandom members - for example, the folks from SPN or Sherlock fandom - whiplash/making them pinch themselves to see if they’re awake, considering MOST male actors’ PAST reactions to hearing there is queer fanfic of them or their characters has seemd to be “weirded out” or at least treat it like a (potentially uncomfortable) joke but here’s Michael “One of us” Sheen, being openly embracing of it and describing it as beautiful and creative and enjoyable literature containing characterization so good he literally deliberately took inspiration from it collectively when playing the character in an adaptation of the original.
like??? have we EVER had a fandom that did this?? hell, have we ever had a fandom where people GOT AWAY with it??
I’m thinking, like…the way some Early Generation Fandom Ladies who were lucky enough to live near where it was filmed have described it, Gene Roddenberry in PRIVATE was totally fine with them writing K/S Star Trek slash on the down-low and talking about the characters as having a potentially romantic bond, because he was a mostly-progressive dude who figured such a thing being taboo was something humanity ideally would grow out of in the Utopian Space Future since it wasn’t ~logical~ and was based on irrational superstition BUT IT’S NOT LIKE HE OPENLY ADMITTED IT OR LIKE THE ACTORS TOOK “THE PREMISE” AND RAN WITH IT AND THEN LIKE LITERALLY HAPPILY CHATTED UP WITH REPORTERS ABOUT HOW “IN LOVE” THE CHARACTERS WERE
But that’s…that’s literally exactly what happened here. Both half the original writing team of the book, AND BOTH of the cast members took a look at the fandom response, said “you know what? you’re right, that would make a damn good love story for the ages” and just.
did it.
and even talked openly and affectionately about it, with ZERO fear of people being queerphobic/homophobic at them over it, they just…did that.
And then Sheen just goes on Twitter and happily acknowledges SPECIFIC FICS that pair his character with his co-star’s, which is literally like walking up to Shatner and asking if he’s read any good stories about “the premise” lately and having his eyes light up and inform you which ‘zine had his favorite Kirk/Spock love story in it.
And just??? To Sheen, it’s clearly no big deal?? He just…enjoys it, doesn’t care who knows it, and agrees a lot of it is good fiction?? Like?? He’s not treating it like it’s some weird underground thing or silly frivolous hobby or even that it was at all ~surprising~ that at least some of it was quite good, and that is…wow.

description:the photos were made at table rock state park in NC. the 4 children dolls (and Dog) are shown climbing and walking around in the sun on large flattish boulders with shrubbery around them and blue sky and mountains in the distance.
note for doll people: i’ve used mattel Creatable World bodies and team stacie / harry potter heads for these hybrid dolls. they’re roughly 1:6 scale like most of my others. i repainted the hair on the HP guys and gave adam strange eyes, but other than that there’s not a whole lot of customizing involved. the clothes used are mostly CW and barbie, plus some others.
