Finished Fantasy High Sophomore Year and let me just say the amount of times it’s hinted toward Adaine being autistic is KILLING me.
So here are some things I notice over two seasons:
- she has a panic disorder, which is very common in autistic people
- she is refreshed by Ayda’s forthrightness, and very quickly becomes best friends with her because of how much they relate. This makes sense because Adaine herself is very blunt, which we see in different scenarios like her conversation at the breakfast table in the very first episode, or her telling Biz Glitterdew that he sucks
- in the scene where Adaine and Ayda meet in a little spacial pocket before entering the Forest of the Nightmare King, Ayda asks if she ever wonders about her brain being “wrong” and Adaine is so relieved and talks about how she feels that way too
- Ayda makes her the spell “Adaines Furious Fist” and if I remember correctly literally says she created it because Adaine has a “strong sense of justice” which will cause her to punch people who threaten her or her friends. A strong sense of justice is a common autistic trait, in fact I’m pretty sure that exact phrasing is used in autistic descriptions
- parts of her fears in the Nightmare Forest is that she will never get new friends after her current ones pass away because she’s afraid of change and fears she won’t be able to meet new people/do new things to create more relationships in her life
- Right after Adaine gives Ayda “Comprehend Subtext”, Fig starts flirting with Ayda by saying she likes explains things to her. Adaine apologizes for possibly making things weird, but upon hearing that Fig was flirting, Adaine says “oh! I’m so bad at reading that!” and feels better. Literally a second after giving her canonically autistic friend a Comprehend Subtext spell, Adaine misreads the subtext behind what Fig was saying.
I’m also very strongly into the headcanon that Gorgug and Zelda are an aut4aut couple. This one I will not present evidence for. I simply feel it.
