another 2003 illustration by the legend Emiko Yoshino 吉野恵美子, from the book “ポケモン えいごであそぶモン!”, an English course for Japanese kids. This one is about feelings, apparently, Jigglypuff’s feelings were so complex they weren’t able to label them.
Finally got my hands on the super rare Umbreon Pokedoll charm! This charm was released with one of the earliest Pokedoll charm sets (2002!) along with Gengar and Grimer.
Guess what!! The Pokemon Snap zine that I was in a while ago is open for leftover sales, so if you missed out on preorders you can snag a copy for yourself (or as a gift) now! If you want one, though, you better be snappy, because the remaining stock is pretty limited. There’s a lot of great pieces in the zine, so I highly recommend picking up a copy!

Explanations for the choices
Lycanroc (midnight)- pretty self explanatory, I picked Lycanroc for jack in the other Pokémon AU so it made sense for Jack to have a Lycanroc in this AU.
✨Special Ability✨- Vital Spirit: “The Pokémon is full of vitality, and that prevents it from falling asleep.”
(He’d definitely stay awake with Jack a lot)
Gengar- You can’t blame me for putting at LEAST one ghost type Pokémon on Jacks team. Gengar seemed like a good fit, astrong ghost type that’s big on playing pranks. Gengar would definitely contribute to some of the weirdness in the gas station, liking to prank customers.
✨Special Ability✨- Cursed Body: “May disable a move used on the Pokémon”
Grimer- Chose Grimer more based on the Gas Station environment. Jack definitely finds the grimer when trying to get rid of one of the many smells of the gas station. Grimer is a contributor to these smells but jack doesn’t notice anymore. Grimer will eat trash and other odd substances around the gas station and has probably eaten a raccoon or two. Jack doesn’t stop em.
✨Special Ability✨- Stench: “By releasing stench when attacking, this Pokémon may cause the target to flinch.”
Abra- Ironic choice because Abra is always asleep, but I felt it fit. Abra is constantly using its psychic powers, even while it’s asleep, which parallels what Jack at the end on volume 3 (no spoilers) Also Abra is known to teleport in its sleep. When Jack ended up outside digging, Abra was definitely there floating next to him.
✨Special Ability✨- Synchronize: “The attacker will receive the same status condition if it inflicts a burn, poison, or paralysis to the Pokémon.”

Waxy Grimer emit a toxic gas, which burns off as an eerie blue flame. As long as the flame is lit, these Pokémon are safe to be around. Ignited Muk ooze a waxy substance that can be used to make candles. Ones made from the light colored wax repel ghost Pokémon, while ones made from the black wax attract them.

Grimer and Muk were designed to more clearly fit into the role of water pollution in the pollution trio composed of Muk (water), Weezing (air) and Garbodor (land). Both take cues from oil spills; Grimer has a six-pack ring on its back while Muk has enormous fatbergs.
Both also include nods to obscure Pokédex entries: Muk has lost its nose because it smells too foul, so Grimer now has a nose. Muk is also said to have toxic footprints, so we gave it more defined feet.
