The door slammed open, and the sharp sound echoed through the chamber. A slender figure stood there, shadowed, and snarled, “You want your fucking chosen one? Well… here I am.”
He steps forward, his glare withering. The pain of losing Tybalt still evident in his face. He stalks to the table, tense and determined.
“It’s time to stop running from destiny,” Tethrius says, to the concerned gazes that turn his way. He brushes past Kaonn and Rytlock to take his rightful place at the war council. “Before my selfishness kills anyone else.”

And here’s Teth! A little belated because I keep forgetting to post. He belongs to my partner, and I’ve just had the pleasure of drawing him and writing up all the lore they’ve told me. In this verse, it’s Tethrius who is the “chosen one” with the dream of killing dragons (and, given Kaonn exists too—though there’s a little time travel on his part —it gets messy). Tethrius doesn’t want to be the one with that destiny, but unfortunately, fate might push him that way whether he wants to or not.
“You forget,” The Commander hisses, baring their teeth in victory. “That by transforming me to be like you, mind becomes my domain, too.”
A hollow laugh, empty with pain, but tied together with the faintest strands of hope as Mordremoth’s face contorts in rage from an attack waged elsewhere.
“And I never fight wars alone.”
Checkmate.

Commander portrait update!! This is Kaonn, he’s a half mordrem Commander but I couldn’t resist making him pretty and toxic, not half-rotten and toxic :D
I say half mordrem, but what happened was Mordremoth got a little too greedy and desired to make the Pact Commander the very thing they fight against. Unfortunately for Mordremoth, Kaonn knows that humanity is not defined by form, and rather spirit. Despite Mordremoth’s taunts, they’ve lost nothing they cannot later regain.
“I can’t. It’s Maguuma, Tethrius. I don’t want to lose those closest to me.”
“You need me there. Someone should watch your back—”
“I need you here! Please, I need you to make sure reinforcements get to us.”
“…” (a step back) “As you wish, Commander.”
“Teth… Don’t bow to me. Not here.”
“I’m merely being respectful, Commander.” (A pause) “Come back alive.”
“… of course. I will.”

Luckily for Kaonn and Tethrius, they reunite in Verdant Brink following that first Pact venture against Mordremoth. Unluckily, Teeahearne has been captured, and thus begins the hardest chapter of their lives thus far…

2022 screenshot + reference updates for your local dragon commander! His design hasn’t changed, no. He dislikes form-fitting human clothing something fierce – something he and Aurene have made an exclusive club about (since others think that Dragon’s Watch Regalia is “high fashion” and so Kaonn refuses to be seen in it. He’s not the best at fashion, clearly XD).
And we’re onto Cantha, next! For a game from 2012, Guild Wars 2 has aged incredibly well. I’m just as in love with the maps and the creativity allowed as always, which leaves me all the more hyped for End of Dragons.
I did a thing? Testing, testing… maybe I’ll male a full ref later. I cut out Kaonn’s model and painted in some wings (that are more accurate to his story than the “Scaled Dragon Wings,” in-game, did a little restoration work (because we’re going from a 1080p screenshot to a 4k canvas) and added a glow map!!
I wish, so badly, the Sylvari cultural armor that wasn’t Caithe’s armor glowed but since it doesn’t and since I can draw, I indulge myself this way (✿◠‿◠)

Their naiveté, their tendency to cling to teachings so black and white when Kaonn knows the world as only shades of grey… it’s suffocating, sometimes.
Tarir is an escape. A place to be with Aurene, to learn about history. To be a part of something new and forget, for moments, just how much has changed.
