#hakoda
Hockey player Sokka is fine I guess but!! Have you ever considered pairs figure skaters Sokka and Katara? Kya got them started when they were teeny tiny tots and yes, they were exactly as adorable as you’re imagining, and yes, Hakoda has a picture in his wallet if you’re interested (please be interested.)
Katara absolutely lives for figure skating. She is the embodiment of fluid grace and athleticism, breathes easier when she is on the ice and every exhale brings with it a cloud of condensation, jumps a double Lutz as naturally as the next person take a step.
Sokka… does not live for figure skating. Don’t get him wrong, he doesn’t actively dislike it or anything! His parents would never force him to do something he hates (not like their competition, Zuko and Azula, whose Dadager always leaves them looking a little dead behind the eyes). And it’s not like he thinks he would be dishonouring his mother’s memory by turning his back on the passion she shared with him and Katara, or he gets a knot in his stomach when he thinks of all the money his father has spent through the years on gas money alone, or he ever looks at his Gran Gran’s weathered hands and remembers the hours hunched over sewing sequin after sequin. He does honestly enjoy the artistic side of things: the costume design and song selection, writing a complete story through choreography that can also rack up an impressive points total. But he knows he’s not as naturally gifted as Katara, and he could quit competition tomorrow and not miss it.
He wouldn’t though, because while he may not love the sport that much, he does love his sister that much. No two people in the world could understand and trust and love each other the way Sokka and Katara do, so as long as his little sister is throwing herself in the air with blades on her feet, he’s gonna be the one catching her and making sure she doesn’t break her neck. He’s gonna be the one up at 4am every morning running drills with her, fielding attacks on his masculinity for her, accepting a gold medal round his neck beside her, and eagerly awaiting their retirement all the while.

In the background on the left side, the snow-withe-floor is covered with a white pelt with cheater spots covering it. a snow step with a blue blanket resting on it leads up to the bed. On the wall is built-in a smaller shelf with small carved toys and a wooden boat toy. a decorated boomerang with a wolf painted on it fell out of it. a doll in a blue parka is resting at the top of the head of the bed. the bed is made out of straw mats two big fur pillows, and soft pelts in shades of dark grey and brown. the walls with visible snow blocks on the right side of the image area are covered in small carvings that look like children’s drawings. on the right side close to the wall, bundled up in furs that resemble sheepskin is kya, peacefully sleeping. her head is resting on her husband’s left shoulder. she is wearing her iconic necklace. peacefully sleeping in her mother’s arms is little katara. who wears a light blue top and has her hair in two braids. she is bundeled up in a embordied blanked. bears and otter penguins hunting small fish are sewn on it.
in the centre, sleeping upside down with limbs spread out is Sokka. mouth open tooth growing out. arms above his head. he is just wearing pale brown-grey pants held together by a dark blue ribbon. he must have gotten out of his blanked during his sleep. his legs are spread atop his father’s torso. one foot getting into Hakoda’s half-asleep face, pinky toe stuck in his father’s nose pulling. Hakoda is not amused. but resigned himself to his fate till his family decides to wake up. he wears his hair open, a bone necklace around his neck. and dark brown pants. over his legs is draped a fur banked.on the right side of the image is a small text saying “please don’t repost” below in the centre is the artist’s signature “chiptrillino . 2022"

ghost stories
a bato/hakoda/kya fanfic
written for @avatar-sunken-ships-week day seven: asian folktales/fairytales
“Uncle Bato,” Katara asks, seriously. “Will you tell us a bedtime story?”
She’s sitting cross-legged on Sokka’s bed, letting her older brother put her long hair into a messy braid. She’d asked Bato to do it but he’d refused. Bato doesn’t know how to do things like braid hair or tell bedtime stories, he barely knows how to interact with kids at all! Tonight is the first night he’d been tasked with getting the kids to bed on his own and he has no idea how Hakoda and Kya managed to trick him into it.
He’s sure some sort of seduction magic must have been involved.
Been thinking of Hakoda/Kya/Bato throuple, and reasons Sokka and Katara call them dad/mum/bato respectively. Or:
Why Bato doesn’t get a parent name
- They weren’t a throuple until the kids were children, by then he was very established as Bato
- He was away working a lot when the kids were young so he didn’t feel he had the right to ask for a parent name
- Bato was horrified by the idea of being called dad because he was Too Young And Beautiful and by the time he realised he actually would like to be called dad it was too late
- Bato came out as a trans man when the kids were children. To replace calling him Mum the kids picked the new name, and as a variation of dad they chose Bato. When asked what he was going to name himself when transitioning, Bato replied “The children have already named me”
A warrior like my father before me.
I can finally share my finished piece for the Avatar Zine: Tales of the Four Nations by @atlazine! I had a lot of fun participating in this project :)
[id: a digital painting of Hakoda and Sokka from Avatar. Sokka is in the foreground. He is wearing a sleeveless blue tunic, white arm wraps around his wrists, and dark blue fingerless gloves, and his hair is up in a wolftail. Sokka faces the right, holding a wolf’s head helmet in both hands and looking down at it with a pensive expression. Behind him stretches the blue and white ocean, snowy plains, and mountains. Behind the mountains, Hakoda is visible from the knees up. He is wearing full Water Tribe armor, wielding a sword, and walking to the left. The sun has set in the sky behind him, and the sky is pink, fading to a starry midnight at the top of the painting. end description]

Iroh and Sokka shopping together
Iroh and Sokka exchanging jokes
Iroh teaching Sokka how to play the tsungi horn and Sokka teaching Iroh how to throw a boomerang
Iroh and Sokka discussing politics during a friendly game of Pai Sho
Sokka telling Iroh everything Zuko has done when he joined the gaang and Iroh trying to hold back his tears because he’s so damn proud of his nephew
Iroh trying to brew tea the Water Tribe way and Sokka holding back his tears because it’s exactly how his mom used to make it
#this is wholesome#my only question is how do you even make tea at the south pole (via@liathcat )
They make tea from sea prunes and it’s definitely an acquired taste
Zuko, to Sokka: please stop stealing my father-figure
Hakoda, in the background: *signing Zuko’s adoption papers*
Sokka:
Hakoda, to Iroh: you get Sokka on the weekends provided that Zuko stays with me. We also share custody over Aang.
Iroh: where do I sign?
Zuko:
Sokka:
Aang, just happy to be there: so!! when’s the family picnic :D
Iroh: of course sokka has been such a bless to me… He enjoys tea, poetry, he-
Sokka:*beats iroh in pai sho*
Iroh: hakoda, can I… can I have my nephew back
OK but Aang canonically plays Pai Sho so like… Iroh and Aang playing Pai Sho all day every day.
Sokka wins most of the Pai Sho games because he’s an ingenious strategist and invents new strategies every game.
Aangalso wins, because he knows a lot of old, forgotten strategies he learned from Gyatso.
Iroh is just happy there’s a new generation of children who seem to appreciate the game (but he also begs Zuko to play with him so he can remember how it felt to win)

Prepare for Trouble (and Make it Double)
A Bato/Hakoda/Kya Pokémon AU
for@atla-polyam-week Day 7 - Free Day
The South Pole is cold.
Theoretically, Bato has always known this. His father and mother have told him enough stories about growing up in the tundra down south to know exactly how cold it can get down at the Pole. Still, as Bato disembarks from the Kyoshi Island Ferry into the freshly fallen snow, he can’t help but feel utterly unprepared by how cold, how white, and how small South Pole Capital City really is. He doesn’t know how his team of Grass and Earth type Pokémon will survive in weather like this. He’ll have to buy more blankets and warming pads before he even thinks about letting them out of their Poké Balls.
