I don’t know if this merits a trigger warning, but just in case: parental abuse is discussed.
When the celebrations are over, and everyone is back in their homes, and the palace is quiet in the night, that’s when the grieving starts. They had cried when Shadow Weaver sacrificed herself for Adora (because it always came back to Adora, right?) but they had had to move on, no time to assimilate that the only parent they’d known was gone. Catra now understands that Shadow Weaver had been incapable of loving her; she has no power or magic, so she was nothing but a tool to mold Adora into compliance. Shadow Weaver didn’t deserve her love, and yet here she was, crying for the woman that had made her feel worthless.
Adora understands, and yet not. Adora knows of the burden, the impossible expectations, the praise that feels like a demand. She doesn’t know of surpassing all goals and still falling short, she doesn’t know of begging to be loved, and being laughed at for it. Still, Adora sits with her at the top of the palace and cries with her for the childhood that both were robbed of.
Micah knows what the girls do when they sneak out at midnight, almost every night. He had known her as Light Spinner, but the person behind had been the same even then. He had also been used and manipulated for his power, but he grew up loved and is at peace with the loss of his once mentor. So he sits with the girls in silence, offering his support if they need it.
One day, it will hurt a little less and long after, she will be nothing but a memory, and a legend, used to scare little children into behaving well. And her ghost will roam Etheria, regretting the love that had been offered freely and rejected.
It really bothers me that we know so little about the other kingdoms in Etheria. Like Bright Moon has a Queen but have we ever heard of Kings/Queens in other kingdoms or are the rest of them all Princessipations? Principalities? And if so, who is in charge of Dryll since Entrapta moved to the Fright Zone? Like do any of the other princesses even have parents? I mean 11 year old Frosta was left to host the ball on her own, maybe because it’s a tradition specifically for princesses but it very much seemed like she was the ruling monarch. For that matter, what is Dryll even like when its citizens aren’t hiding from deranged robots? Did anyone else live in the castle besides Entrapta and her 3 kitchen staff (because presumably robots can’t make human food, based on season 3)? Give us more world building in season 4 please!
