“You may recognize Mahogany, an extension of the Hallmark brand, as a line of greeting cards and gifts that celebrates Black identity with messages of culture, faith, pride, and love. It is designed by a team of African-American writers, editors and artists who are creating cards to empower the community, speak to racial resilience and the Black experience.”

“Most recently, under the leadership of Vice President Alexis Kerr, Mahogany is expanding as a digital platform to uplift Black writers and expression on topics like friendship, romance, motherhood, self-love, fitness and more. Centered on a community of writers, including content from best-selling author Melinda Williams, the site is designed to serve as “a gathering place for Black women to connect with each other, celebrate their culture, sisterhood, and community,” says Kerr.”

While plenty of America’s abandoned insane asylums offer spooky tours, overnight ghost hunts, and museums filled with the torturous relics of psychiatric history, there’s one defunct mental hospital in Ohio that cranks the creepy-factor to 11. Sure, it has all the hallmarks of a great local haunt - rumors of spirits, beautiful decay, and even an adjoining cemetery, but it’s what lies hidden on the top floor of the building that truly terrifies visitors: a human-shaped stain where an escaped patient lay dead for over a month.

Deadly Weapons

1974

Hallmark movies hit different back in the day, I guess.

This week on FFR we are joined by Dave Proctor who schools us on the Christmas movie formula. Ebony, as usual, hates on whimsy and Anita wishes that the Happiest Season came out in 1998 where it belongs.

Give it a listen!

Young widow Laura Trudeau (Alexa PenaVega) was a remarkable dancer. As a project manager she is tasked with renovating a dilapidated lodge in her hometown of Rosemont, Utah and have it ready by Christmas Eve. She is stunned to discover it’s the same lodge where she and her former love and dance partner Ricardo Archuleta (PenaVega) performed each Christmas. While surveying the property Laura comes face-to-face with Ricardo shocked to discover he is rehearsing the show’s grand finale with his new dance partner Taylor. When Taylor has an audition abroad, Laura temporarily steps in and finds herself back in Ricardo’s arms. Feelings begin to resurface in the hope of rekindling their romance just as Taylor returns with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Ricardo. Laura, not wanting to get in the way of Carlos’ dream, encourages him to go. Now with both the hotel opening and the show in jeopardy Laura is faced with having to make some difficult decisions, both personally and professionally.
