This was my first stick'n'poke. I did it back in December. It looks a little funny but I don’t think it was that bad for my first try.

Submission from @dominic-the-homestuck.  Everyone has to start somewhere; photo is a tad blurry but from what I can tell it’s a pretty solid line work!

My first attempt at stick and poke before I ever got into tattooing was with a SAFETY PIN(which I did not know at the time were BARBED) and india-ink from one of my art pens; I stopped fairly quickly when I realized that wasn’t working.  My young and dumb self was VERY lucky that I didn’t get an infection; what I do have is an EXTREMELY feint blue dotted line on my upper thigh; you wouldn’t know it was a tattoo or maybe even notice it at all without me pointing it out.  I get a laugh out of it lol Learn from my mistakes kiddos, use proper equipment!

a small semicolon on my wrist, done by me (as always), to remind myself that i matter and that its not worth anything to give myself up.

I like it, that’s really crisp and bold-awesome to see in hand-poked work.  Beautiful message

[My Newest Tattoo]

Who would have thought tattooing the inside of your fingers would hurt?  My mentor decided that since I didn’t think 3RL needles hurt, I needed to experience a 1Liner needle…my dumb ass chose the inside of my finger to test it on (I have plans for the free spaces on the outside of my fingers, and fingers are my favorite place for tiny tattoos).  I wussed out and switched to the 3RL(which still hurt like a sonofabitch on the inside of the finger), so now he gets to laugh at me.  Fucker <3

That said, I got two adorable tattoos out of the experience, so I won’t complain.

But yeah, placement kiddos.  Smaller needles hurt worse than larger groupings, and some areas are just naturally more sensitive than others; but it’s bearable. (I mean hell, my mentor tattooed his own dick for fucks sake...PS please don’t tattoo your own dick, he’s a professional with around a decade of experience under his belt)

“My first ever stick and poke! Did it last night and I’m super happy with how circular and neat it came out!”

Submission from @papergirl123!  That is very tight and neat, great job!  You’ve achieved a very solid line on a piece of skin that’s very difficult to get a good stretch on, that’s impressive!  Well Done.

Also, not to sound too overbearing here or anything but be meticulous with your aftercare!  A foot tattoo(especially bottom of the foot) CAN attract dirt more easily; make sure to clean it often and use a good aftercare ointment to avoid infection.  No worries though, just keep it clean and you should be fine!

My Newest Piece

Inspired by infamous 1940′s Mob Boss and father of Las Vegas, Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel.  He built The Flamingo hotel and casino; which he named in reference to his nickname for long time mistress/girlfriend/fiancee Virginia Hill.

While he ultimately went down in history under the nickname “Bugsy”, no one dared to call him that to his face when he was alive.  At the time, it was a popular euphemism for “Crazy” (”crazy like a bedbug” was the old saying it came from); which he took as an insult of the utmost disrespect.

Another nickname he got was “Baby Blue Eyes” for his striking blue eyes and movie-star good looks.  The murderous gangster was actually known to wear face creams, and take immense pride in his good looks.
He had many friends in the movie industry, and was offered an audition, but believe it or not, his nerves got the better of him. He did, however, give more than a little bit of advice to his friend, movie star George Raft, on his portrayal of gangsters in movies.

As a side note, Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel and his iconic checkered suit became the inspiration behind “Benny Gecko” from Fallout New Vegas, a personal favorite game of mine.

First time using shader needles for a hand-poking

I used a 9Round-Shader to fill in the black areas; two passes with the needle, could have gotten an opaque black if I did a couple more passes, but I wanted a more weathered look to it, given the post-apocalyptic vibe I was going for.  Definitely a lot faster and more uniform than trying to pack black/color with a lining needle.

I used Kokkai Sumi ink instead of the “Infinitii: Black Outline” that I like; so far I like the Kokkai Sumi, but I don’t have any done with this ink that are fully healed yet, so I can’t give a firm opinion as of yet.
