The morning after the election, Uncle Sam wakes up in bed, hungover, with everything in his room caught up in a whirlwind of bottles of alcohol, a ballot box, playing cards, chips, cigars, and furniture, and within the whirlwind is another whirlwind with the Democratic Donkey, Republican Elephant, and a Moose buzzing around his head.
An artist could have penned the drawing today, but it was done more than a century ago! This was published in Puck, the first successful magazine of political satire. Puck took aim at politicians, business titans and special interest groups swirling around Washington, from 1876 to 1918.
