Magical Maritimes does Dreamy Dominican - Wedding Style!
Last week i was fortunate enough to travel to Punta Cana of the Dominican Republic to photograph the wedding of my two friends at the Jelly Fish Restaurant on Bavaro Beach. This was my first time photographing a wedding and i’m not going to lie, it was pretty nerve wracking! In the end the pictures turned out great and i’m so thankful for the experience and being part of their absolutely beautiful day.

Today I did a lot of meal prepping..more on that tomorrow and in my insta stories.
Tonight I ended with Crispy Snapper in a coconut, Sofrito, ginger, turmeric, lemon broth. Topped w/ smoke salt candied cashews, crispy shallot + capers, cast iron tomato remoulade. For a healthier spin I dredged the snapper in chickpea flour + added my own spice rub.

Enjoyed with a little bit of all the things I made today..my fave was the charred corn, peach, black bean chipotle salsa cause there’s still 12 days of summer!

Matthew Alderman Studios recently completed a commission for a new logo for the Dominicana online journal. You can read more about the website’s Easter re-launch here, or like it on Facebook here. The website explains its symbolism further thus:
To mark this new chapter, we commissioned Matthew Alderman to draw our new logo, which depicts a familiar image from Dominican history: the dog with a flaming torch in his mouth. The dog is associated with St. Dominic and his Order, and the torch represents his burning zeal for preaching. The link dates back to a dream by our founder’s mother, Blessed Jane of Aza, while she was expecting him, and has been strengthened over the years by a pun on our Latin name:Domini-canes: the hounds of the Lord. Dominicana’s hound holds in his paws the shield of our province.

Rebecca is a New York City-based writer residing in the South Bronx. She grew up in Washington Heights, and couldn’t be more Dominican if she tried. Currently, she is working on two novels: a young adult novel about a time-traveling Dominican teen, and a science-fiction novel about four boys in future South Bronx, a part of a shadowy organization trying to dismantle the totalitarian government. Rebecca is an avid reader, a writer, and a craft junkie. Her favorite craft to do (while watching hours of anime) is rigid heddle weaving.
In her writing, Rebecca seeks to explore the many things that shaped her: growing up in a strict Pentecostal church, regularly visiting libraries, growing up the child of immigrants and how it feels to be in between places. You can read more of her writing on her blog, Rebecca Reads and Writes.
