Finally got my hands on the Jaws 2 book….

I went back to basics with this one and I think it turned out real nice. If this is the first MCC post of mine you’ve seen, hi! So I made the team a fluffy sweater! I was originally going to make multiple different designs but this one was so nice I thought I should just use it for all of them. I fiddle with the color so many times. There are precious few nice looking yellow shades. Going in a more orange direction made this look too fall themed. I mean, it still looks somewhat fall themed. No shading. I tried several times and it did not go well. The fur had multiple tones at one point and it looked like bird poop.

And yes, I think I managed a yeti for the backs. I think. It started out looking very Yak like (unintentionally). I kept all the bottom halves (mostly) the same but I did make a few tweaks. Mostly color. The sweater pattern is loosely based on ones I looked up but I did make my own design of them.

Anyways, here’s the individual breakdowns.

Starting with Quig. He was the first one I did and the fur collar came from wanting to give him a hood. Since he no longer has the most distinctive feature of his skin (the vibrant purple stripes on the hoodie), he gets stripes on his pants. And though it’s hard to see, his pants do still have the bit where parts of it are on the outer layer.

Next up, Michaelmcchill. I tried giving him two straps (as his original skin has) but it really didn’t work out. I debated not having the strap cut through the Yeti but it really looks better this way. Oh, and though it’s hardly noticeable, his knee-pads do have a different color behind the lighter color in the center. Not that you’d ever see it.

KaraCorvus was a lot of fun to work with again. Again, I made her hair shorter. One day I will stop shortening all the hair, but it is not this day. I actually shortened her hair in the front as well this time. Her skirt is actually moved down a few pixels. And the socks were so hard. But I really love the fluffy lining I gave them. It looks very cozy.

And finally, it’s CaptainSparklez! His was very hard to do as I somehow had to give him the same sweater while also making his distinctive long coat. In the end, I turned his coat into the sweater! Technically I moved all the coat bits down a layer because the cuffs are on the second layer. I love how this turned out. It fits with the rest of the team and yet still looks like the CaptainSparklez coat.

The theme of this set of skins is the ‘boss’ mobs from minecraft. What, there are only two boss mobs in minecraft? Technically that’s true, but I added two semi-boss mobs (one of which is not even in the game yet) to the lineup.

Also, did you know centipedes are hard to make pixel art of? Because centipedes are hard to make pixel art of. But don’t worry, I managed to make one that looks nice for the back. Alright, time for individual breakdowns.

Starting with Ranboo, who of course must be the Ender Dragon. Look, I thought about making CaptainSparklez the Ender Dragon but really there was no choice here. It had to be Ranboo, the one with an Enderman skin. This one was really easy to make. The wings were especially fun because they’re basically just strips of the appropriate colors.

Next up, WilburSoot, who is the Elder Guardian. I know the Green Guardians were a thing for MCC, but they’re not anymore and anyways these are Halloween skins. I turned his beanie (which one of his skins had) into a guardian eye. This one was a bit harder to make, but I think it turned out great.

Sneegsnag is the Warden. And yes, I know the Warden isn’t in the game yet, I don’t care. This one is quite the change from the original skin, but I think it turned out good. The gloves were very tricky though. Just like finding pictures of the backside of the Warden was hard. It’s worth it in the end, though.

And finally, CaptainSparklez as the Wither. Out of all of them, this one was the hardest. I probably redid the ribs bit like four or five times. Also that ribbon placement? Very hard. The ribbon is three pixels wide and the gap of the coat is two pixels. So that doesn’t work very well.

And now for the fun bit. See I was of two minds for these skins. I was not sure if I wanted them all in Cyan or in colors more true to the mobs in question… so there’s an alternate design for all of these skins.

Yeah, that’s right, I made four recolors of the skins based on the actual mob colors. It wasn’t that bad actually, as it was almost just find and replace. Almost. Alright, here’s some shorter breakdowns.

Yeah, the real Ender Dragon is basically black and grey. But that doesn’t look very nice. So de-saturated purple it was. Also have the golden crown returns (it’s a bit darker than the original), but with purple gems to match the theme.

This one was the bane of my existence. The colors would not cooperate. The tans were all wrong, the spikes looked off, just. Everything. Although actually making this color adjustment is what made me make the gradient on the spikes more prominent.

And now Sneegsnag really looks like a Warden. This one was really easy and turned out amazing. I basically just swapped the colors, no adjustments necessary. And it looks sick.

Finally, the alternate version for CaptainSparklez. I went with the charging up Wither because I thought it would be more vibrant and visually interesting. And getting the blue just right was an adventure. But it turned out good.

You know, I was pretty sure I wasn’t going make MCC Rising skins. I thought, surely there’s no way I’ll find a team I like so much I’ll want to make skins for them. So I was wrong. I actually found the Red Rabbits through KingOfArchers (whom I picked from the announcement as my MCCR pov). I do like all of them, though. No, I did not watch all of Yoshinom’s PK Warrior streams. But I did watch a few hours of them!

Yoshinom loved the Aqua Axolotls cute hats (and I agree, they were adorable). So I thought his team should get cute rabbits. It took a little fiddling but I think I managed to make a pretty cute rabbit design. They’re wearing crowns because I wanted KingOfArchers to still be wearing a crown. So now they all have crowns!

The awkward angle on the photo this time comes from me trying to make it more visible. I promise they are very cute on the actual skins. And then of course I had to pair them with cute hoodies. And yes, I promise my standard mascot is on the back. Bigger this time because it looks better. Oh and they all have the Technoblade cancer support ribbons. 

Alright, now for the individual breakdowns.

Starting with Yoshinom. He’s got his kerchief still, but other than that, I pretty much took apart his entire skin. Well, his boots and belt are based upon what was already there. But in red. Lots of red. The stripes aren’t really a reference to anything but they look cool. Oh and he’s got a bigger rabbit hat because it fits his skin (more on that later though).

Next up, KingOfArchers, who specified that she should not look like anime Technoblade. I hope this works as not anime Technoblade? I had to cut her hair shorter to fit the rabbit. Also the fur trim (which is now red) is a bit shorter. I’m really glad the arm cuffs look the same as her regular skin though, I really wanted to capture that part of her look.

Mejoraas’ skin is very cool, but also a pain to work with. I wanted the fragments to fit the clothing, so that meant a ton more work for me. I don’t have the location on the 3d model memorized to the 2d map, so figuring out which parts needed to be copied over to the fragments was a pain. Also. Shortening that mask while still making it read as the same mask? That was hard too. Which is why Mejoraas and Nicacolas both have shortened hats. Fun fact, though, the checkers on the sleeves is meant to evoke Mejoraas’ regular skin.

And finally, Nicacolas, who’s name I can never write correctly first try. First of all, had to keep the L’manberg flag. I don’t watch dream smp but even I know that’s a truly important part of the skin. Also, like usual, I flipped the tail down so that I could put the rabbit on the back. Also kept the scarf because that’s an integral part of the skin. Finally, the pants is designed to be a jumpsuit tied at the waist because of Nicacolas’ aviator theme. Since I removed the very cute bomber jacket and all.

In the MCC16 Sapphire Simmers post, I mentioned I make a lot of vests. And I also mentioned I should do a space theme just to avoid making more vests. Well, guess what theme I picked this time? To be fair, I wanted to do something different with this team anyways. 

I tried going the royalty route (because Eret and CaptainSparklez) but it didn’t feel right. It was just too obvious. These skins were also slightly based on my memory of the MCC12 Aqua skins. But only slightly as I didn’t reference those skins when I was making these. I also switched back to block shading this time.

Oh and all of them have the cancer support ribbons for Technoblade. That and the customary Axolotls of course. These ones are probably a bit closer in design to the mini yaks I did for MCC16 Yellow Yaks. They’re not that big. Just adorable.

Alright, now for the individual breakdowns.

Starting with Eret, which was first skin I made. You can see that this skin is based off of Eret’s regular skin. Sidenote about that, the jewels on the crown on the normal skin are offset in an odd fashion. I mean, it totally works but I don’t understand the pattern. So I didn’t replicate that. Also, the jacket has an asymmetrical closed front, as opposed to the original’s open coat. This was when I was figuring out how I wanted the team to look and I’m quite pleased with how it turned out.

Antfrost is next. Now, Antfrost’s regular skin isn’t wearing clothes. So the design of his clothes was up to me. Like Seapeekay (see MCC15 Yellow Yaks), I wanted him to still look like a cat, so I didn’t cover his feet. This time I did cover up his tail because it didn’t really fit the approach I was going for. Oh and I also gave him a shoulder pad on one side. That’s his accessory, to match Eret’s crown, Kara’s bow and Cap’s glasses.

KaraCorvus’ skin was a lot of fun. First I removed the front bow because with the Technosupport ribbon, that would’ve been three ribbons. And I felt like that would be too many. I also changed her stockings and shoes to socks and boots. I really liked the way her boots turned out actually. I did have to shorten her hair like I did for Vixella’s MCC16 skin. That’s just the nature of things when putting a design on the back. But I think it’s pretty seamless. It looks kind of like a higher ponytail.

And finally, CaptainSparklez. I’m back with the two toned glasses. Or well, actually this time it’s three tones. I also moved his coat down a layer to add the flair above it. I really like the alternate cuff design I came up with. I knew I didn’t want it to be the same as his usual, but I also wanted it to sort of evoke that look (just space instead of royalty themed). I think it turned out well.

MCC skins bonus round time! If this is the first of my MCC skin posts you’re seeing, I’m a huge fan of Minecraft Championship. I specifically watch CaptainSparklez, so I’ve made skins for his team before (the latest of which is here). But I love the Simmers too, even though I don’t watch them in MCC. After I finished the last skins I had the itch to do more. An itch which I’ve now satisfied. I debated which team to do for awhile, but I settled on the Sapphire Simmers for two main reasons. One, they don’t get enough love. And two, I just generally love how they’re a for fun team and they really embrace that.

I made them pirates because I was thinking about how they use the wool strategy in Battle Box to triumph over more PvP strong teams. It’s a very clever move to me and I respect their dedication to it. Also their fight with the Krimson Krakens in MCC7′s Battle Box is hilarious.

And I don’t care that they’re called the Blue Bats, they’re the Sapphire Simmers. So instead of a Bat, I put a Sapphire on the back. It turned out very nice, I like it a lot. I debated doing more shading but every time I tried it looked worse. And I’ll leave it at that. Alright, now for the individual breakdowns.

Starting with James Turner. I was getting a feel for the style I wanted to use when I made his. I really like the way the coat turned out. Actually I had a decently rough time differentiating it from CaptainSparklez’ coat at first. I’ve made a few variants of CaptainSparklez’ coat is all I’m going to say about that. Also his facial hair totally suits being a pirate. Which is a happy accident as I didn’t change anything about his hair. I just gave him a cool hat.

KryticZeuz’ skin originally had a much more open shirt. I even debated not giving him an undershirt. But eventually I went with this design, which is a bit more subdued. I think it turned out better than a more open shirt would’ve. Also apparently I really love vests. I suppose that’s not too surprising given the kind of themes I tend to go for. Maybe I should do space related next time just to avoid more vests. Then again I’m sure I’d find a way to add vests in spite of that.

Actually, speaking of vests, Dr. Gluon’s original design was a long vest. It did not look as nice. I actually debated changing his hat to a bandana (and then Vixella would’ve had just a ribbon in her hair). But I figured he could be a pirate wearing a fez. I’m glad I stuck with that because it turned out better. And then there’s just some standard boots. His design was probably the one I struggled the most with.

And finally, Vixella. She’s actually the first girl I’ve designed MCC skins for (which is kind of crazy). The hardest part about her skin was probably fitting the gem in. I did debate putting it on her bandana, but I didn’t like it as much. Actually at one point her bandana had a skull and crossbones on it. But it was too busy. Oh and I shortened her hair. I really didn’t want to, but I couldn’t fit the gem without it.

So this time I had a bit more of an inkling I was going to do this (as I’ve done it twice before). But I wasn’t sure how to theme it. And then I thought, ‘hey, both CaptainSparklez and HBomb94 are in Vault Hunters, let’s style it after that!’ Yeah, so at the time the Aqua Axolotls weren’t released yet and I had no idea there would be a ¾ Vault Hunters team. Whatever, HBomb94 said he thought the team would do well in Sands of Time, I can use that as my excuse.

And I totally decided to make putting the mascot on the back a sort of signature of mine. I did use a different design this time, simply because the previous Yak would’ve been way too big. So mini-Yak it is! It’s very cute. Also, I shaded the clothes this time. It was… something. At least I sort of learned what the burn/dodge tool is for.

Anyways, here’s the individual breakdown.

Going to start with Ponk because that’s the one I started with. Now, I don’t know Ponk very well, but when I found his skin I noticed that most had what I believe is a balaclava? Anyways his head thing. I thought I’d turn it into this scarf because I was basing this off of Nathan Drake from Uncharted. That and Indiana Jones were my main two references. Also, fun fact, I shaded this one last. Oh, and the hair is not mine, he had a skin which had his hair showing so I used that.

Hey it’s GeorgeNotFound. I feel like I’ve done his skin before… Actually, I kind of ran into the same problem I had when I was doing the MCC14 skins. Namely, GeorgeNotFound’s skin is very plain. Which is fine and all, except when everyone else on the team has more complex skins. So I gave him a scarf to match Ponk. I also decided not to match the block shading this time. I left the skin and hair matching it, but then shaded the clothes to match the team. I think it worked out nicely.

HBomb94′s skin was tricky. Do you know how hard plaid is to pull off on a minecraft skin? It’s very hard. I had to redesign it because the pattern he usually wears is weirdly spaced (and once you see that you can’t ever un-see it). But it’s totally worth it, I love how it turned out. I also moved it to the outer layer so that I could fit a shirt underneath. I initially had is pants with a more cowboy vibe, but it wasn’t matching the theme. I may have to do a cowboy theme one day.

And finally, CaptainSparklez. I feel like you can see that I drew some inspiration from my last Yellow Yak skin for CaptainSparklez. Which is sort of the hard part about him being on the same color. I’ve got to do yellow again while not matching my own work or the skin he ended up actually using. This skin, most of all, I think, shows how I’m improving month over month. I like the subtle gradient on the coat a lot. And I’m a lot happier with a yellow coat. It feel a lot more Yellow Yaks than a brown coat does.

Plus, here’s the special bonus round! I don’t know Ponk. I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t mind the scarf design. But just in case, I altered the skin slightly to include the balaclava mask. And this one does make it more clear who it is, as the other one is a bit less recognizable.
