summary: doctor rashid finally gets reader to open up about her husband, but she’s conflicted when her newly discovered feelings for spencer have her feeling guilty about who she left behind.
a/n: i am happy to say that this is the first happy(ish) chapter of the series! it’s a bit full of doubt but i don’t care, it’s a change of tune. can’t believe we’re halfway through already, my mind is kinda blown that this is halfway DONE!

you had not closed your eyes for one moment when spencer was beginning to wake up with the rising sun blinding his closed eyes. he had slept through the entire night, and that made you smile, your lips tugging subconsciously.
then you snap them straight again. because those butterflies are flying in and coming fast.
when spencer sits up you’re quick to tell him the excuse you’d been concocting all night, that you have a therapy appointment, you can’t be late for it.
he’s nodding with understanding, still trying to gather his mind, rubbing his eyes to try and rid the sleep from his body. you’ve managed to peel yourself from the sofa, relief flooding your legs when they were no longer suffocating under both jeans and a leather surface, trying to remember where you’ve placed your shoes and bag before spencer stops you.
“y/n, i just want to say, i probably wouldn’t have slept last night if you weren’t there for me.”
your head snaps up, and spencer smiles coyly, a blush on the apples of his cheeks that made you wonder for a few split seconds if this is what he looked like every morning.
