See, I think nicos personality is very complex.

At first he’s an annoying ten year old who is full of wonder and questions. He’s super cheery, talkative, and has many special interests. He’s the kid who tries to be friends with everyone even if they want nothing to do with him.

After biancas death, he closed himself out and pushed everyone away. He tried to swallow himself up in his own sadness but that kid has adhd and no matter how depressed and brooding he wants to be, he still is the kid who will talk your ear off. This is heavily shown when he interacts with Percy at the end of the labyrinth to talk about immortality. You can see how despite he wants to appear, that part of him that hyper fixates on topics and can’t shut up is there. He wants to talk and be friend with Percy, (albeit a bit of that comes with the crush) but he is fighting with his anger over his sister.

After this we see him at the battle of Olympus. He starts to come into his own near the end of the series, being able to rely on himself. He’s now self conscious which is to be expected of someone his age but he knows how to hold himself when he needs to. He is even willing to give being a camper another shot but his own insecurities that came with leaving camp the first time take over.

Throughout the second series, we can see how just plain awkward he is around people. Nico has amazing people skills but he doesn’t always know how to use them around people that might intimidate him (which should never be a problem with him but he second guesses himself a lot). He tries to communicate but adhd comes in all forms and (I even have a theory as to why he might even be on the spectrum but that’s for another post) and this leaves him with a small disconnect with what he says and how people perceive his humour. Nico is still the kid who cracks jokes but not many people get the dryness he has with them.

In toa, however, we see Nico starting to go back into the same pattern we knew from when we met him. He’s opening up in conversation, still making friends with everyone and everything that is willing to hear him out and not run away. It’s obvious that Will is able to understand his way of thinking which is why they become close. When Nico tries to push people away, despite not really wanting to, Will was able to separate what he was saying and what he meant. Nico might not be the best when it comes to using his words (maybe bc English is his second language) but he always means what he says.

Nico is not some UWU baby, or some depressed scene kid. Nico is a awkward 14-15 year old who still doesn’t know they cured polio, who loves to talk to people but is often misunderstood. Percy didn’t have time to really translate what Nico was saying and that’s how we are introduced to him. His thought process is much clearer in his POV and we are able to see how he just goes from one thought to the next without vocalizing it. Nico is literally a kid who deals with his trauma through dry, crude jokes and is misunderstood by those around him. Nico is the kid who drops a joke about their shitty life and you don’t know if you should laugh or not so u awkwardly chuckle.

Anyways, I have a lot of thoughts and feeling about Nicos character and until we get a solo book in his POV, since he’s technically a side character, we are only seeing him through a lens of other characters perspectives. But yeah. Nico is just the same loud, curious kid he was at the beginning, he’s just finding a way to deal with his own trauma and insecurities and is often misunderstood in his words and actions.

Will and Nico don’t bicker like an old married couple. No, no. They bicker like second graders who have crushes on each other and don’t know how to handle it so they throw sand on the playground and pout when they can’t share crayons.

the real scary thing about horror movies is how expensive their bills must be, considering they always seem to not be able to turn some goddamn lights on

Happy Pride Month! Being queer in fandom often means enjoying and finding meaning in your own interpretations of characters, but it can still be nice to see bits of yourself reflected in official media. So for my own entertainment I tried compiling a list of queer Doctor Who companions who were established as or intentionally implied to be queer in licensed stories. In a franchise as long-lived, wide-reaching, and beloved by queer people as Doctor Who, that criteria can be flexible and subjective, but here’s what I came up with anyway.

I’ve given references to the stories where the companions’ sexuality is confirmed or implied (As far as I know, Tania is the only transgender companion, and she’s also a lesbian so ‘sexuality’ probably covers it- I haven’t included Time Lords even though their own relationship to gender and sexuality is automatically queer compared to humans). I included specific sexualities only when I remember it being specified enough to warrant it, but obviously this could easily be debated endlessly.

This list is limited by what I remember and can find out, and if you want to reblog and add on to it feel free! It’s in order from the Doctor’s point of view, for the sake of my sanity (though I believe in order of publication, the first companion to be explicitlyqueer is Chris Cwej).

-Oliver Harper (gay, audio The Cold Equations)
-Liz Shaw (implied then confirmed in the BBV spin-off P.R.O.B.E.)
-Mike Yates (implied in novel Happy Endings)
-Adric (bi, audio A Full Life)
-Nyssa (webcast Farewell, Sarah Jane)
-Tegan Jovanka (webcast Farewell, Sarah Jane)
-Ace McShane (bi, implied in Survival, much more strongly suggested in audio The Grey Man of the Mountain)
-Chris Cwej (novel Damaged Goods)
-Izzy Sinclair (lesbian, comic Oblivion)
-Fey Truscott-Sade (comic Oblivion)
-Sam Jones (bi, novel Seeing I)
-Fitz Kreiner (bi, novel The Taintetc)
-Liv Chenka (audio Wild Animalsetc)
-Helen Sinclair (implied in audio The Doomsday Chronometer)
-Tania Bell (transgender lesbian, audio Wild Animalsetc)
-Jack Harkness (pan, The Doctor Dancesetc)
-River Song (pan, The Husbands of River Song)
-Clara Oswald (bi, heavily implied in The Magician’s Apprentice,Face the Raven)
-Bill Potts (lesbian, The Pilotetc)

Can probably add Yasmin Khan to this as well! (source either Eve of the Daleks or Legend of the Sea Devils depending on which one you see as more explicit about it)

I can’t believe I forgot about Yaz I put the list together from memory so I thought I might miss one or two, but that was an obvious one whoops.

Sonic Underground Redesign #3: SoniaI can explain under the cutSo when I started drawing Sonia, I’d

Sonic Underground Redesign #3: Sonia

I can explain under the cut

So when I started drawing Sonia, I’d tried drawing her as close to her cartoon design as possible, but because I am using a style that aligns closer to the modern Sonic style, it didn’t mix that great.

I tried to alter the design a pinch which led to more alterations as I kept going, and after a long, long time of discontent drawing, I got frustrated and just decided “Screw it. I’m just gonna hafta make a new design from scratch, aren’t I???” Which kinda bites because I’ve seen a lot of people adapt her design into their style nicely, but I guess it be like that sometimes.

Outfit: When I was making her new outfit, I had some key phrases I kept in mind: Sporty, feminine, and 90s-esque. Sonia’s whole thing is that she’s the girly one among her siblings, so I wanted to preserve that idea, but at the same time, I wanted her to have an outfit that she could easily fight and smash robots in. Sonic Underground was made in the late 90s and I’m putting her at 13 years old, so I wanted to keep those ideas in mind as well when putting together her appearance.

Seven+ concept drawings later, I’m really happy with what I came up with.

I tried to preserve her clothes’ old palette at first, but the red and purple blended too much with her fur and quills. I want to be able to squint at a distance and separate each hue from the other without undermining the way the color combination blends, so I took the old clothing palette and made it more pastel. This way, she has a balance between dark and light hues separating her body from her clothes.

Bracelets: I took her belt from her old design and converted it into her bracelets (they match on both wrists)

Quills: I tried to keep her quills as close to her original design, and I really like the shape a lot. I couldn’t make her quills brighter than the rest of her fur without it looking tacky (seriously, other artists, who do you guys do it???) but maybe I’ll give her highlights in the future or something. For now, though, I like the way her fur palette looks. :)

Shoe logo: Yes, it is a nod to her medallion

notmakingwaves:

1. He’s Andrastian, he’s religious and he is open about it and even proud of it. He speaks confidently about the will of the Maker as if it were hard facts, he believes as strongly as Cassandra or anyone else. But he’s constantly challenging the most popular interpretations of the Chant of Light. He believes in the Maker, and Andraste, but he does not believe in the Chantry.

2. He’s not fighting for himself, at all. He’s a warden. If he were ever overwhelmed by the fear of being taken to a circle (and he was) he could just go back to them. Even temporarily. He has a cop-out that no other mage has and he doesn’t use it. Instead he fights. And we see from awakening how he would behave if he wereall about himself, and turning away from the suffering of others. Anders doesn’t WANT a revolution. He wants a pretty girl, a decent meal, and the right to shoot lighting at fools. Being a warden pretty much gave him that. Anders, having been swayed by Justice, recognizes the need for a revolution, or at very least for someone to do something besides talk.

3. He cares about mages. Mages specifically. Vivienne wanted to change the circle, fix it, make it safe for all mages and a sanctum for them. But she wanted to do this carefully, within the laws of the chantry, and it would take time. This was only in the interest of mages who were not about to be killed, made tranquil, or already being abused. In the interest of those who were okay being a prisoner for their entire lives. AND it was in the interest of non-mages. Anders give a single fuck about non-mages. By Act III, He wanted to do something for mages NOW. He was no longer willing to let those already in the fire, burn, while he tried to compromise with his enemies. So he started his own fire. Fire with fire.

4. He is a fighter. He puts all of his energy into what he believes and he has no time for neutral ground or “compromise.” He’s interpreted as bitter and annoying by so many people because he doesn’t have time for your ass if you want to sit on the fucking fence.

5. He’s a lover, he’s a romantic. He loved Karl with all his heart and he falls for Hawke the same way. But he can never put that above what he is fighting for because it is bigger than he is. Bigger than any of his personal feelings for his personal well-being. He warns Hawke about this multiple times, because he is aware of it. It’s something he has chosen. He needs Hawke to tell him, if you romance him, that he will not hide his love for him and that he will stand beside him for who he is. If you romance him, you agree to this.

6. He’s massively flawed when it comes to dealing with relationships with other people. He’s a human being– not a cinnamon roll or a problematic fav, just human, and it shows. He’s difficult to love and he knows it but the fact that he’s constantly talking about it just causes people to brush him off as whiny and then complain when, oh wow, you actually are pissing me off a bit right now. This is also something I love about Sera. They’re really the only ones who give you a solid moment where you are actually surprised at how much your “feelings” for them are being challenged, for you. They’re the only ones that turn the pain toward you.

7. He’s not traditional in the world of character creation. He’s thrown out there, he’s dragged around, he’s stepped on by his writer and you are given more than enough encouragement to knock him down to the lowest point possible. And even if you don’t, he falls without you. Anders was made to be pushed around, to be changed, his writer even verbally states this. But that’s all the more reason for me, to fight for him. Because he’s flawed, and he can be a massive ass, and he can hurt people and he was meant to be that way so that you are encouraged to try and change him. But he is also passionate in love, fights for a cause he believes in beyond all doubt, ignoring everything those around him have to say about it.Why anyone would want to take that away is beyond me.And that is why nothing will ever stop me from adoring him, just the way he is.

So stop trying. Because I know you’re trying.

8. He wants to know what he’s talking about, he wants to fuel his arguments from facts and speculations based on facts. His approach is diligent and well-educated. He doesn’t ignore what’s in front of him and takes new, hard, information that challenges his point of view well. Take Legacy, for instance, in which he is faced with the idea that mages did begin the blight. His reaction is not denial, but acceptance, and then the immediate decision to research it further. Not to mention his manifesto in itself and what we hear of it is proof of this.

ja-khajay:

all these posts about people clutching their pearls about seeing bare titties at pride make me laugh because at last year’s pride i met a cishet guy who had no idea what was going on and had joined because he saw bare titties and thought “those people look like they are having fun, and also i can see tits for free” and he asked me about what was happening and let me explain LGBT struggles for some time before telling me he had a transgender cousin and he was going to make sure to be there for her in the future. bare tits will be the beacon to world peace

Open expression and celebration of one’s body and sexuality is queer culture, and showing that at Pride is how we remind the world we exist without compromising our own culture and history

This is a great example of that
