David Bowie had a great love for a variety of books ranging from Arthur C. Danto’s art expose Beyond the Brillo Box to Nathaniel West’s dark comedy The Day Of The Locust.
But it turns out the ‘Rebel, Rebel’ singer was also crazy about a popular Australian TV show.

According to a 2010 interview published by Mojo magazine, the pop superstar was obsessed with ‘80s medical soapie A Country Practice.
According to the interview, which resurfaced on social media on Thursday, Bowie was so committed to the soap that he would watch the program while holidaying with good friend Iggy Pop.
“It was a big favourite of ours,” Pop told the publication. “We watched it all the time in Switzerland.
“David loved that show,” he added.

Bowie enjoyed A Country Practice so much that he invited actor Shane Porteous, who played lead character Dr Terrence Elliot, to meet him backstage during a show on the Australian leg of his 1987 Glass Spider Tour.

A Country Practice is a multi-Logie award-winning program which followed the exploits of a rural medical practice. It ran for more than 1,000 episodes across 14 seasons between 1981 and 1993.
The show, which drew an average audience of 8-10 million people per week from a population of around 15 million, was axed by Channel Seven in 1993, but briefly appeared on Network 10 in a re-worked format the same year.
The new version, which only featured three of the show’s originally cast members, was later dumped following the premiere of Neighbours.
