Talking with Mauricio Duque about how sunlight or lack of thereof has a huge effect on the Swedish mood he came with the most accurate description of the phenomenon there is: they charge their batteries from it! Which totally explains why on the dark days their bright colors disappear and they turn rather grumpy.

Although we ought to admit it’s something easy to relate to. On your way to adaptation to Sweden, where the tightness of your pants will dramatically increase and your willingness to share the bus seat will dramatically decrease, you will find yourself getting motivelessly happy on a sunny day and grumpy on a rather cloudy and dark one!

Five months have passed since I am living in Sweden and I still haven’t dropped a drawing line on this charming place (shame on me!), but such nonsense ends now. This is a tribute for my favorite expression of swedishness: fika!

Fika is, to put it in short words, your regular coffee break. Just way more awesome.

You may be wondering ‘we all have coffee breaks, what’s so special about theirs?’
Fika stands for: no task is so pressing that you cannot allow yourself a moment to put your mind at ease, give your tummy a treat and just share some time with people. Not even a work meeting or a city siege, for a rested viking is a happy viking!

Bonus track: easy guide to fika yourself!
