The joys of losing posts.

Last night I wrote a long post about my recent frustrations with the digital edition of Edge magazine, as of the latest issue. I was even positioning it as a sort of return of The Magaziner (the site I used to run about magazine culture). But I somehow lost the post before I was able to post it, and I don’t feel like writing it again.

Oh well.

I think it may have been a sign that if I am to bring back The Magaziner, I should do it properly, with its own site, structure, etc. I’d been feeling the itch of late to bring it back, but had let the domain expire earlier this year, and when I checked recently, found that it was grabbed by someone who just wants to sell for a grand.

How grand.

Who needs domains anyway, in this day and age. It’s vanity more than anything else. And besides, I still have JeanSnow.net.

Knock on wood.

*JeanSnow.net is no longer available*

(That’s what I imagine happening any second now.)

So that’s that, The Magaziner will remain in hibernation for the time being, until I have a really good idea on what to do with it. And hey, PauseTalk isn’t dead.

Dead Collector: Bring out yer dead!
[A large man appears with a (seemingly) dead man over his shoulder]
Large Man: Here’s one.
Dead Collector: Nine pence.
“Dead” Man: I’m not dead.
Dead Collector:What?
Large Man:Nothing.[hands the collector his money] There’s your nine pence.
“Dead” Man: I’m not dead!
Dead Collector: ‘Ere, he says he’s not dead.
Large Man: Yes he is.
“Dead” Man: I’m not.
Dead Collector: He isn’t.
Large Man: Well, he will be soon, he’s very ill.
“Dead” Man: I’m getting better.
Large Man: No you’re not, you’ll be stone dead in a moment.

Hopefully I don’t need to explain where that comes from.

So yes, no big post about the incredibly horrible new digital edition of Edge (it’s basically a PDF now with a few links, and doesn’t remember your spot if you exit the app and come back), no return of The Magaziner (although if you like magazines, take note that the current issue of all Conde Nast titles on iPad are free right now, until November 30, and that includes WiredandThe New Yorker), and I’ve probably rambled on enough.

Since we had our first big snow in Montreal yesterday, I’ll leave you with this image by one of my favorite illustrators, Yuko Shimizu (and you can go read this interview with her).

“Tyger Tyger, burning bright” -William Blake, 1794

In my Freelance Illustration class we were given the assignment of creating a poster size, 16”x22”, piece based off of “The Tyger” by William Blake

@freckled-cosmos-art

This redraw was originally just a fun personal piece to see the difference in my art in almost a year. But it became a lot more then that.

When I drew the original I hadn’t even played Caelum yet. With the new version we have since finished our campaign. That’s 11 months.

Over the last 11 months Caelum was someone I became every week. He made mistakes but also did a lot of good. He changed from this idea I had into his own person.

In the last 11 months I’ve had days that were easier and days that were harder. I watched two people I love get married. And I’ve had heartbreaks. I’m not the same person I was 11 months ago. And that reflects in my art. The bones of it are still there but I feel it changing and growing up right along side me.

“Youth vs Experience”

In my Illustration Studio III class we were tasked with creating two pieces with opposing themes. I chose youth vs experience, and explored what my, @animegeekchickand@sallux D&D characters would look like at the beginning of our campaign against twenty years later.

Interpreting them in this way was so fun and it’s so rewarding seeing them side by side!

@freckled-cosmos-art

The Little Mermaid was my favorite growing up and I wanted to use that as inspiration for a RWBY OC! I’ve been trying to finalize this design for a while now, so I might just make a whole turnaround for him now that I’ve settled on his look! I’ll definitely have a name for him then too!

Sticker designs I made of the Mighty Nein!

Trying to capture different aspects of these characters’ personalities and backgrounds for the designs was so much fun and I’m so happy with this set! Hope you all enjoy them!

The first five, Jester, Fjord, Caleb, Caduceus and Beau are available on my shop! Molly, Nott and Yasha are currently in production but should hopefully be up within the next week! Check the link in my bio!

Here’s my OC’s Arlo and Silas with my one boy being protective over the other boy

I love them.

Elbio of the Mountain

He’s a Firbolg, Circle of Dreams Druid

And he’s my next character for my D&D groups campaign of Rime of the Frostmaiden! Mountain goat is an official animal in the new mondual so I wanted to use mountain goat features to create him and I’m really happy with him! Cant wait to play him

@freckled-cosmos-art

My Firbolg, Circle of Spores, Druid, Arlo!

Arlo was cursed by a Drow priestess of Lolth as a child, for Lolth foresaw the role he’d play in liberating the Underdark from Drow suppression, preventing him from gaining any kind of benefits from the giant heritage Fiebolg’s have.

When his curse was broken by defeating the priestess he more than doubled in size and became a full fledged Firbolg.

I love him with all my heart

one silly thing about being an illustrator is that over time you accumulate mass amounts of unfinished/abandoned pieces.  this was the background for an illustration that i could never get to work, but i kind of like it on its own.
