to take and to shiver beneath. to desire like a hemlock; full of sunlight and need.
any time i’m in the comment section of a mc episode and they’re criticising hurrem or nurbanu or some other concubine by saying “they’re manipulating suleiyman/selim! they don’t love them, they just want to control them!” i’m like GOOD. you think i’m rooting for their OWNERS?? fuck that shit.
After becoming an adult, and more importantly, after getting meds that help me deal with my scrupulosity, I’ve got to say that I no longer can take people who talk about ‘irredeemable media’ or that you’re always 100% a bad person for watching them seriously at all.
Like, look, I’m not saying you should 100% watch whatever ‘problematic’ media people are complaining about this week, or shouldn’t be critical of things, but like… Half of the things that I hear described as irredeemable media like South Park or Harry Potter are things that I’m basically 100% sure that there are a lot of people who have done real community work that has actually really improved the world have watched or enjoyed those shows.
I’m gonna stake my claim here that if a person goes out and does good things in the real world and then goes home and watches pretty much any problematic media, they’re automatically a better person than someone who exclusively watches what they deem morally pure media and does nothing to actually help people.
That, and for a lot of media, most people online vastly overestimate the average person’s awareness of issues with most media that people online bitch about. Most people just flat out haven’t heard of these issues with things like Attack on Titan where the understanding of potential issues is linked to foreign politics. It’s just not as well known as people online like to pretend it is.
I do think you should try to be critical of the media you consume, but that’s just never going to be actually as important as trying to be a good person in real life.
