The “Hot Time in Hawaii” episode (season 1, episode 18) is probably one of my top ten favourites from the Jem cartoon. I was inspired to sew a custom fashion for my Classic Jem doll (by Integrity Toys), based on a dress Jem wears in the final music video of the episode, “How You Play the Game”. I made a custom tulip design scaled for the doll and had it printed on cotton sateen fabric. I used a lightweight cotton silk for the lining. Lining Jem’s dress allowed me to finish the edges of the straps and hem without worrying about turning under tiny quarter-inch seam allowances. I simply sewed around the edges, turned right-side out, pressed, and voila … it’s luau-time, Synergy!
