Mt. Paektu is standing in Samjiyon County, Ryanggang Province, in the northern part of Korea. It is 2,750 metres above the sea level. The crater Lake Chon is on the top of Mt. Paektu. The area of the lake is 9.16 square kilometres and the maximum depth of water is 384 metres. There are many mountain lakes in the world but none of them is as beautiful as Lake Chon on Mt. Paektu with mysterious colours. Everybody admires the magnificent and wonderful view of Lake Chon at first glance. The main colour of water of Lake Chon is greenish blue. It is colourless to a certain depth from the shore. The water is so clear and transparent that all kinds of stones in it seems to be spreading on the bed. Going further, the colour of water turns light green little by little. As the lake gets deeper, it gradually changes from light green, green and greenish blue to complete blue, which is the main colour of the water of Lake Chon. The blue colour turns dark blue as the lake gets deeper and it is the colour peculiar to Lake Chon that cannot be found elsewhere.
The colour of water of Lake Chon mysteriously changes into multifarious colours according to the watching position and distance, seasons and weather, and natural phenomena. When the sun rises spreading golden beams, it looks like a gilt plate on the red background. When the beautiful evening glow appears and full moon rises, the silvery and golden waves of the lake are very spectacular. The original colour of water of Lake Chon is peculiar and beautiful and mysteriously harmonizes with various colours, adding to the marvellous and distinctive looks and character of Mt. Paektu.
I’m mean, so if I included Gojirin in a Godzilla timeline, she wouldn’t technically exist…
She’d show up in a story about Godzilla and many people getting caught up in a shared-hallucination/dream-timeline deal. Godzilla’s desire to meet another of his kind mingles with the ideas of children to produce Gojirin.
That…could actually be a dilemma. Keep everyone trapped in a fantasy ideal, including Godzilla, sparing the world his destruction? or break everyone out, monsters included?
If Godzilla is a mutation in this continuity, he would show no signs of desiring to mate despite this being meant to be his “dream girl” from a child’s point of view not understanding the concept. Hormones for gettingin the mood would be too messed up.
I actually like the idea of there being more than one Godzilla, and also a potential origin for Godzilla Jr. or Minilla, to the point that I kind of figured out a way to make a quasi-plausible MonsterVerse Gojirin.
So, her key design points are that she’s pink and has more rounded dorsal plates? Those aren’t actual that implausible.
First off, the color. The Himalayas have areas full of pink salt. It’s not super saturated cartoon pink, but it is still pink.
Secondly, it’s MonsterVerse canon that Titanus gojira dorsal plates grow, break, and regrow in different shapes over the course of an individual’s lifetime.
So how do I make Gojirin work? Simple. She went into hibernation pretty much right underneath one of those salt deposits in the Himalayas, and the stuff has more or less embedded itself into her hide, giving her a pinkish hue that isn’t typical of the species.
The rounded plates could just be chalked up to individual differences, but I go back and forth between that and saying that she’s an older individual who’s been hibernating longer, and her plates have eroded into somewhat rounded shapes. Not cartoon heart-shaped though; maybe one can look like that to make her inspiration crystal clear, but otherwise no.
Where was she during King of the Monsters (2019)? You can basically give the same answer as the Queen Muto/”Barb” regarding Godzilla (2014); Gojirin was buried deep enough that she just didn’t hear any of it.
She gets woken up by [insert plot-related events here].
I’m late by a long time to add this take, but I’m bored and I’ve seen a lot of fans and casual observers talking about how the “second Ghidorah head” in Mechagodzilla’s construction comes out of nowhere. Narratively, it does, I’m not contesting that.
What I am contesting is the idea that it’s complete nonsense. You have to look at the world of the MonsterVerse through a perspective like that of Monarch.
“Myth is our compass,” and when you use that compass, you find an interesting tidbit from mythology. When Hercules slew the Lernaean Hydra there was one immortal head that could not be killed, only buried.
In the MonsterVerse, every myth and legend of gods and monsters is a garbled remix of kaiju/Titans witnessed in the distant past. Assuming that Hercules is Godzilla, that makes the hydra Ghidorah. I can only conclude that before Ghidorah was frozen in Antarctica, they had another battle where Ghidorah lost a head but escaped, and it was this head - or at least skull - that ended up in Apex’s hands.
It was the head Goji ripped off Ghidorah in the ocean before the oxygen destroyer was launched in Mexico during KotM. He didn’t eat/destroy that head, just tossed it aside.
No no, that’s one of the heads Apex has in the movie, but it’s specifically mentioned that they’ve got two heads. One inside Mechagodzilla, and the other in the building as the cockpit/control center.
It’s a blink (or rather, sneeze since it’s dialogue) and you miss it mention in the movie, but the novel emphasizes it more.
One of them is the one Godzilla ripped off near Mexico, I was addressing the unexplained other head.
(I cannot stand the idea of anyone believing I don’t know my Godzilla movie lore, lol.)
Overall this book was a quick and enjoyable read. We once again enter the world of Caraval, in all of its magic and mystery. A lot of lore was introduced that wasn’t mentioned in the previous book, which made the story feel very jarring to get into. While the details of the plot were completely new, a lot of the larger plot paralleled the first book in a way that felt too repetitive. That said, I bought in and was happy to enjoy the journey. I’m looking forward to the third installment.
