#its fantastic
This was written for @thing-you-do-with-that-thing‘s SPN Movie Challenge. I picked Legends of the Fall with Dean. I choose two scenes in particular to rewrite. It’s been a long time since I watched the movie and didn’t have time to do so before writing this. I pat myself on the pat for not falling into the trap of the love scenes in this movie…
Thank you to the amazing @leatherwhiskeycoffeeplaid for the beta and encouraging me not to delete the whole thing and start over.

Nighttime in Zamalek
A few hours after “In the Gardens at Mena House”, December 1922
It was late, nearly midnight, when Rick and Evie returned home from dinner at Mena House: late, and nearly all of the lights were off save for a low light over the back door. Rick parked Jonathan’s car in its lane at the side of the house and turned to Evelyn.
“Thank you for a great night,” he said, giving her that cheeky grin. “Shall I walk you to the door?”
Evie smiled. “Doesn’t a gentleman always see his lady friend safely home?”
“Yeah, he does. Do you want me to get your door for you, too?”
Evie laughed, settling back in her seat. “I don’t want the day to be over yet. Do we have to go inside?”
Rick set the keys on the dashboard. “No, honey. We can stay out for a little longer.”
“Good.”
Evie put her handbag up beside the keys and climbed into Rick’s lap. It was a bit awkward with the steering wheel in the way, but she managed it, and put her arms around Rick’s neck. It was outrageous that she could do this, just climb into his lap and put her arms around him, but it was also the most natural thing Evie had ever done. It was almost like being back on their camel, riding away from the ruins of Hamunaptra–but this time, she wasn’t going to settle in against him and fall asleep. She tilted her face up, asking for a kiss, and Rick leaned down and stole her breath away.
“I really did have a lovely time,” Evie said when they broke apart.
“Me, too,” murmured Rick, kissing her again. “It’s always fun to see you excited.”
“I hope I didn’t bore you at the Pyramids.” Evie nuzzled into him; Rick had such lovely, warm lips, and he was such a good kisser. “I do tend to overtalk when I’m interested in something.”
“Nah,” Rick said, trailing kisses along her face and down into the hollow of her jaw. “You don’t see yourself when you’re being passionate. You’re so gorgeous–”
“I am?”
“Yeah, you are. Your eyes get all bright and your whole face lights up and you’re just–I could just fall over and worship at your feet.” Rick lifted his face from her neck and grinned at her. “You’re just absolutely beautiful, Evelyn. Everything about you.”
Read the rest at AO3! And leave me a comment; it’s still my birthday. ;-)
Every time someone reblogs this, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss step on a LEGO.
Oh, what a lovely visual
“I know now the span of my life” hits so much harder when it’s being read, collectively, with a group of people who will have to wait around until June 29 to see what happens and who also cannot go one single day without fretting that their friend Jonathan Harker hasn’t messaged them.
I still somehow can’t quite wrap my mind around the connection between “you post fanfiction online” and “people will actually read it”
Like ?? you’re telling me someone legitimately took some time out of their day to read what I wrote?? Just like that?
