that bit in jane eyre when he gives her money and it goes like

mr rochester: wait if you have all this money you’ll be away for months. give it back

jane, hiding it:no

mr rochester: ok only half

jane:no

mr rochester: let me just see the money then

jane:i do not trust you

A favorite moment, they tease each other so much in this scene! And he so doesn’t want her to go! Sigh.

galpalkirk:

this will never stop being funny no matter how many times jane says it

It’s my favorite exchange between the two of them!

I think he was swearing, but am not certain;

however, he was pronouncing some formula which prevented him from replying to me directly.

My love for this production is beyond words. This scene plus when he realizes Jane is the same person he met in the lane makes up for the fact they rearranged those scenes.

I would say that National Theatre’s Jane Eyre is a true first person play and a semi perfect adaptation for me of the novel, especially knowing that it was a two night event before it was shortened for filming. I love that they had the bare stage so the focus is in the actors, their movements and their words, how the other actors occasionally becoming Jane’s inner subconscious and voice, and the music. Oh the use of music! How I wish there was a soundtrack, never thought “Mad about the Boy” and “Crazy” could fit damn well into Jane Eyre. I highly recommend this show. For any theater fan, literature fan and especially for a Jane Eyre fan. (PM me, if interested, I may or may not have a Google drive link.)

I thought that I was ordering a random but quite pretty second hand Jane Eyre. My surprise when I opened the box and discovered that I’d actually bought the third edition. Bonus: a lovely 1906 Christmas inscription to one of the owners.

I love Neil Gaiman so damn much. Best advice on how to raise a reader—let them read…whatever they want to read.

My mother—who meant well!—was always trying to get me to read “good” books. “Garbage in, garbage out,” she would say grimly, as I loaded up on Star Trek novels and Dragonlance, and try to get me to read improving literature like “Jane Eyre” and “Two Years Before The Mast.”

Today I write children’s books for a living. She has since apologized and I have still never read “Jane Eyre.”

but JANE EYRE is trashy & sexy & full of over the top DRAAAMAAAAA & the great grandma of all the wooooo haunted gothick mansions & grim brooding scarred hawt heroes who have to be tortured & tortured & tortured some more before they are worthy of the snarky self-possessed heroine coming to rescue them ! !

& yes it is awful in so many ways

but it is like twinkies dipped in godiva chocolate

OMG THIS IS SO BAD FOR ME THIS IS SO TRASHY & UNBELIEVABLE & ALSO HOW DOES GETTING HURT AS A RESULT OF YR BAD DEEDS MAKE UP FOR YR BAD DEEDS & ALSO WHAT HAPPENED TO XYZ CHARAS???

I CANT STOP REREADING THIS IT IS SO AWFUL

but all the women even the most conventional / traditional are more self determining & badass than ANYONE in EITHER “TWILIGHT” or “50 SHADES ”
