Albert Edelfelt (b.1854 - d.1905), ‘Au Bar, or Woman with a Cigarette’, oil on canvas, no date (est. 1870s), Finnish, sold for 51,650 GBP in Sotheby’s 19th Century European Paintings Sale, November 2010, London, England.
Marked[A son ami G Bourgain A Edelfelt], 'To my friend Gustave Bourgain from Albert Edelfelt’. Bourgain (b.1826 - d.1921) was a student alongside Edelfelt under Jean Leon Gerome in the 1870s at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. The model for this image was also the same model for Edelfelt’s famous painting 'Queen Blanche (Blanka)’ c.1877.
