The history of the pink suit

The pink suit was first created by Coco Chanel for her 1961 autumn/winter collection, but Jackie’s suit was not made by chanel.it was a high end reproduction made by Chez Ninon in 1961.When Jackie became First Lady, her father-in-law, Joseph Kennedy, reportedly discouraged her from buying clothing from Parisian fashion houses. The purpose was to appear patriotic by wearing only American-made clothing. While chanel didnt construct the suit, they provided the fabric, the trim and the buttons, but it was assembled by Chez Ninon. This allowed Jackie to get around the restriction of buying and wearing French-designed clothing.

Jackie wore to suit on atleast 6 different occasions before the assasination,She wore it to dallas because the president requested it.It was one of his personal favorites.According to biographer William Manchester, Jackie told him that President Kennedy had discussed what she was going to wear, saying“There are going to be all these rich, Republican women at that lunch … wearing mink coats and diamond bracelets. And you’ve got to look as marvelous as any of them. Be simple — show these Texans what good taste really is.

After the assasination,Jackie refused taking off her bloody suit saying”“Oh no,I want them to see what they have done to Jack.”and she kept the suit on until she arrived back to the white house

Her matching pink pillbox hat is still considered missing, its last known location was the white house map room.

58 years ago, President and Mrs. Kennedy arrived in San Antonio to begin President Kennedy’s critical campaign trip. Upon their arrival in Texas, Mrs. Kennedy was presented with a bouquet of yellow roses. She was presented with more yellow bouquets later on that day. The next day in Dallas, she was presented with red roses. Yellow roses represent joy, cheer, and strong ties of friendship. They can also convey a sense of warmth, gladness, and wish the receiver good luck and a warm welcome. Red roses represent passion, true love, and bliss in a marriage. A combination of both can symbolize celebration, joy, happiness, and compromise.

First Lady Jackie Kennedy wore this pink suit to Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963. While it may or may not be an actual Chanel, Jackie’s suit was one of President Kennedy’s favorites. On the way home from Dallas, Mrs. Kennedy refused to change clothes, reportedly saying, “I want them to see what they have done to Jack.” After the assassination, the suit was later given to Jackie’s mother, Janet Auchincloss. The suit was later given to the National Archives in Maryland, never cleaned. In 2003, Caroline Kennedy deeded her mother’s suit to the Smithsonian on the condition that the suit never be shown in public for at least one hundred years, in 2103. Even then, the Kennedy family will still hold the right to keep the suit, which holds tragic memories for many, kept safely away in a temperature controlled room. The only mystery revolving around the suit is that Jackie’s pillbox hat was never found. Jackie was photographed on other occasions wearing the same suit prior to Dallas, or wearing one very similar to it.

Coincidence? I think not.

Nov. 22, 1963, was one of the darkest days in our nation’s history, when a young president who had captured the imagination of the world was gunned down sitting with his wife in a motorcade driving through the heart of Dallas, Texas.

The assassination of John F. Kennedy shook the confidence of a country that had emerged less than a generation earlier, triumphant from World War II, and set the stage for the social upheavals of the rest of the decade. The official explanation for the assassination was that a nonentity named Lee Harvey Oswald had carried off the murder entirely on his own — for reasons that have never been fully explained.

This left many Americans unsatisfied and gave rise to the modern industry of conspiracy-mongering that still defines much of American political discourse. (AP/Yahoo News)
