After deciding not to run for a third term as President, Teddy his son and 250 other porters and guides went on safari throughout British East Africa, the Belgian Congo and Khartoum to collect specimens for the Smithsonian. The entire group “collected” 1,100 specimens. Teddy and his son alone bagged 512 including 17 lion, 11 elephant and 20 rhinoceros. At one point, Teddy shot a rhino that was charging at him by shooting through the beast’s neck into its heart. 

Khartoum, Sudan

Riverboat fishing along the Nile is an age old trade done in the same fashion as a fisherman would living in Ancient Nubia 3000 years ago. The GNPOC tower, built in 2010, is a sleek contemporary skyscraper operated for production and exploration of the region’s oil reserves.

Corinthia Hotel - Khartoum, Sudan

Constructed in 2008, the Corinthia Hotel is situated along the Nile River where the Blue Nile and White Nile meet. The architecture was designed to resemble a ship’s sail.

Salam Center Medical Housing - Khartoum, Sudan

Housing for the international staff of the Salam Medical Center. Each residence is constructed from recycled trucking containers. The containers are insulated with a bamboo brise-soleil panel system. This assures that rays of sunlight never actually hit the containers, keeping residences cool and energy efficient.
