• • •“ Hello! My name is Im Nayeon! ” Nayeon playfully exclaimed, pronouncing each word carefully. Nayeon has just moved to Seoul, and she was finding it hard to create complete Korean sentences. When she lived in Paris and Japan, she never had this problem before. Nayeon had never been shy to speak in hangul regardless of the time and place. Now, it baffled her how difficult it was for her to talk to some of the people she had encountered. Perhaps the thought of saying something wrong or offense towards a native speaker was hindering her from speaking freely. “ I am currently a college student majoring in Traditional Korean Music. I play the koto, and I am quickly learning how to play the gayageum. I started learning how to play the koto in middle school when I first moved to Japan. ”

• • •Tucking her hair behind her ears, she straightened her back and looked directly into the camera. If there was one topic that got Nayeon talking, it should be her dreams and aspirations. “ I love music, I have loved it for as long as I can remember. My mother used to say that the only thing that could make me sleep at night was the Spice Girls. ” Pausing, she let out a small chuckle. She had to remind herself that she shouldn’t divulge too much into her own interests. She needed to get straight to the point. “ My dream is to work in the music industry, specifically performing traditional Korean music. Perhaps, when i’m grow older, I would also like to compose and research about traditional music. ”

( *& // haknyeon adds as an afterthought, still smiling ) my aunt’s cooking is good but it isn’t exactly comparable to my mum’s … ( *& // at this he realizes that he’s going off topic. a habit he has ) oh! that’s about it, i think. i moved from jeju-do to seoul like two years ago so i’m still getting used to the place. well uh, that’s all for now!

( *& // he explains slowly ) she’s acted in a few dramas and i guess … i guess you could say she’s my inspiration? i want to be just like her. i want to move people with my words too. except my older sister does it through acting. i want to do it through music.

Blanking out wasn’t something unusual for him, he was always happy that it happened, rather than making him say something stupid out of stress. What was stress even to him?// I’m not the most talkative person, but I do try to be understanding and social. //Minhyun finally said, pursing his lips together and nodding, it could have gotten a lot worse, in his opinion at least.//

He wanted to be understood, because his dream job wasn’t that popular, and it was a different type of art.// Probably become a well know light designer. It’s not the most popular job, but it’s a very interesting. You get to do a lot, travel, meet people, and it’s relaxing. You’re alone for hours at a time and just get to experiment with lights and colors, structures and techniques. //he said with a small nod. He could talk about his job for ages, but maybe not everyone needed to know what was happening behind the scenes of concerts and shows.// I hope people get to enjoy the show’s I’ll be able to put on someday.
