LED Grow Lights have revolutionized theindustry. They are a step up fromtraditional lighting systems in many ways due to better light quality, safetyfactors , less heat emission, and decreased power consumption. Based on these factors, many growers areswitching to LED Grow Lights from older light systems. LED systems have made huge leaps in just thelast few years into becoming the premier method of growing cannabis plants indoors. In this article, I will discuss some tips to make the best use of LED Grow Lights to grow massive cannabis plants.
With indoor growing, the obvious advantage is complete control of environmental factors such as lighting, nutrients, temperature, soil conditions, air quality and humidity. One imperative item to remember is that with LED lights, proper care and attention needs to be paid to the temperature. This is because LED Grow lights do not emit the heat emitted by most lighting systems, for best results keep temperatures to 85 degrees Fahrenheit and humidity at 45%.
If you are growing in soil, with LED Grow Lights you have to be careful not to over water your plants as LED Grow Lights do not dry out the soil. Of course, it is necessary to ensure that the soil mixture is capable of proper draining or the roots may become damaged. For best results, a peat-based medium is recommended supplemented with 40-50% perlite. With this mixture, you will get not only proper drainage but also oxygen circulation to the roots. When the first 2-3 inches of the soil becomes dry or the leaves get droopy, then it is time to water the plants. Make sure the water runs all the way to the bottom so that the roots are also being hydrated properly.
If rather than soil you are choosing to grow hydroponically, then the main change required is to keep the water temperature below 70 degrees. If you fail to do so, then your roots will suffer as water is unable to hold proper levels of oxygen above this temperature. Two ways to do so are to keep the water cool with a water chiller or to keep the entire space chilled below 70 degrees.
Another common mistake made by those new to LED Grow lights is that they forget about maintaining proper air circulation. LED lights have the power to turn any small space into an area of marijuana cultivation however, air circulation should not be compromised. Fortunately, it is easy to remedy this issue. Even with no or poor air circulation, the cannabis plants will grow, however, the yield will be significantly less and the quality of the yield will be less than ideal. I recommend some sort of small fan for circulating air as well as a larger exhaust fan. The goal is to make sure that air is exchanged on an hourly basis at least a couple of times. Taking the right steps to ensure air exchange will prevent any mold from growing on your plants as well as strengthen the plants to handle the bountiful yields generated by the LED Grow lights.
