“Y/N! Y/N where are you?” Taylor paces the near vicinity of the flipped over bus, ignoring the pain of her own injuries for the sake of the search of the guy she’s desperately calling out to in this moment to no avail. He’s nowhere to be found nor can his voice be heard.

John too is in search of the remainder of his students while Andrew sits concussed with his back to the roof of the bus as he’s slowly coming to, taking at least one worry off their list at the moment.

Soon enough Angela is discovered to have been flung to the dirt path below the main road and man does she have a few quarrels about the current condition of her clothes as a result of the tumble that clearly has left her with no major injuries if her outfit is what she’s worried about. Typically Taylor would be quick to snap back at her with a quick witty remark, but her mind’s going too haywire for her to come up with any, almost disappointing the older woman when she doesn’t initiate a verbal brawl like she usually would. Although twice the girl’s age, Angela’s got none of the maturity that comes with it clearly. Not when she’s willing to pick petty fights at all let alone in a situation like this where there are still two students not accounted for.

Daniel is soon found too. He’s got a few complaints for his own injuries and the pain they’re causing him but all in all, he’s alright and in one piece and perfectly capable of walking though he too is stuck down on the dirt road that’s rather bumpy and uneven. Oh and it also brings Angela as his walking partner which Taylor’s sure is far from pleasant but she shies away from sharing her condolences in favor of continuing the search for her friend.

No, that definitely doesn’t sound right.

Calling Y/N friend hasn’t been sounding right for quite some time now but she promised she’d take things slow with him and he was more than cool to match with her on the same wavelength and let her pick the pace of their budding friendship and its transition into a possible something more.

“Consider this me checking if you’re boyfriend material or not.” Taylor told him teasingly that night after their first not-a-date date. The sound of his laughter that followed is singed into her memory and never fails to bring a smile to her face when she recalls it.

Except right now when it evokes sorrow upon the thought of never hearing it again crossing her mind.
She finds herself horrified that she might never get the chance to tell him that he’s passed the Boyfriend Material test with flying colors. She’s afraid she won’t ever get to make him laugh like that again. Won’t ever feel his arms around her or know how his lips would feel against hers…

Stop it, Taylor. You’re being dramatic. We’ll find him.

As if reading her thoughts or working according to them, Daniel calls out barely a second later, “We found Y/N! He’s unconscious!”

Taylor’s heart drops, a lump simultaneously forming in her throat when the words are processed and set in.

Before she knows it, she’s running ahead to where the two paths meet at a chained up gate with her professor and classmate running closely behind. With their help, they bust open the gate, allowing them access to the dirt path where they immediately find the three other students - two of them kneeling of the unconscious bruised and bloodied body of the third.

“He’s got a pulse, he’s breathing.” Daniel announces, more to Taylor than anyone else, having noticed the panic in her eyes. “He might be concussed or worse…I don’t know. I should’ve taken first aid instead of social studies this semester.” He does what he does best in stressful situations: babbles as he tries to figure out if Y/N’s got any head injuries or visible signs of head trauma.

“You would’ve sucked at it.” The other boy’s voice and the opening of his eyes scares the crap out of Daniel with its suddenness, causing him to pull away.

His spot is now claimed by Taylor who wastes no time before she starts quizzing the still-dazed guy on his well-being and scolding him for scaring her the way he did.

“My most sincere apologies. Next time I’ll make sure to land elsewhere when I get flung out of a bus window.” He remarks sarcastically as John and Taylor join forces to lift him to his feet.

The girl scoffs and rolls her eyes, “You’re such a dumbass.”

“Aww, you flatter me.” He replies with a wink that makes her giggle.

John puts up with their flirting until they make it to the main road when he finally gives up and leaves Taylor alone to support Y/N after making sure she’d be capable of doing so. Truth be told, he’s mostly walking by himself, but he enjoys the proximity with his long time crush and likes the excuse to have their arms wrapped around each other.

But still, a swell excuse is not what he’s looking for - he wants a definite answer. One that would allow him to hope they’d often find themselves in each other’s arms. And he’s been very adamant on not pushing her into making a decision or giving him an answer, but he can’t help but be curious and ask which way the scale has been tipped recently.

“So.” He starts.

“So?” She prods him on.

“So, I just survived getting chucked out a bus and landing in a particularly unpleasant way and location. Does that make me enough of boyfriend material for ya?” He wiggles his eyebrows at her, making her laugh wholeheartedly and like she’d never imagine to be appropriate for the situation they’re in. But that’s Y/N at his finest - always the silver lining, even in the worst of situations.

“You’re a fucking dork, you know that?” She asks him once she manages to pull herself together.

He shrugs, “I’d like to think you like that aspect of my character but if it’ll result in getting points taken off my card I might as well…”

“Oh, shut up.”

Her lips do just that - shut him up - when they meet his in a quick but loving kiss to finally put a ‘YES’ stamp on his exam. He’s definitely passed the Boyfriend Material test.
