zhonglumi is platonic in this au, as lumi has been arranged to marry him since she turned 16. In celebration of their betrothal, Zhongli offers Lumine his finest warrior, the last Yaksha, Xiao. but of course, lumi falls in love with xiao instead lol
if lumine were to die, how exactly would xiao react? Zino thought that xiao would most likely stay in a state of denial and bury himself in his own dilusions that lumine is still with him
when lumine and aether traveled their first world together, they didn’t want to leave right away. they met so many people that loved them and cared for them, that taught them how to be human, but it all went down in flames. the world was destoryed beyond repair, and the people that taught them how to be human were ripped out of their life. they had never had a parental figure, they were born from the stars after all, but the people they met on that planet were the closest they would ever have. full of despair, they fled the broken land that was once their home.
they visisted many worlds after that, each ending in terrible disaster, and each time leaving the twins wallowing in their own despair. they try to help save worlds, they train in battle and mind and still fail to save even one. still, they don’t give up. the travelers arent traveling for no reason, after all. they’re searching for a place to call home.
teyvat was a world that was on the brink of destruction, there was nothing they thought they could do to help, so they went to leave. when their path was blocked by an unknown god, they were stripped of the very powers that they had worked so hard to master. one twin sent to the war, forced to watch as mangled and broken bodies littered the battlefield. as the smoke finally settled, a decision was made. this twin would find a way to take revenge on the gods of this world.
the other twin awoke around 500 years later, startled awake by a cold wave of water brushing against their legs. confused, they looked for their twin. weeks past and there was no sign of them anywhere. returning to the beach, they heard a giant splash. thinking it was a fish, they immediately went to go catch it. what they reeled in, however, was a small fairy-like creature that spoke in a tongue they didnt understand. a few days past, and they were able to learn that the creatures name was paimon. it took a few months but they were eventually able to communicate freely, and decided to go on an adventure to find their lost sibling.
headcanon the traveler likes to collect souvenirs from all the different worlds they’ve visited, which is why they love treasure hunting. so now, with their memories erased, they have blank memories of the items they used to cherish dearly, the little trinkets and accessories that reminded them of past friends. they look at them and wonder who it is that gave them such a precious treasure, and hope one day they’ll be able to remember
