Statue of the so-called Apollo Lykeios

This is a Roman version of a famous statue of Apollo that stood in the Lyceum, a large outdoor gymnasium just outside the walls of Athens. The Roman writer Lucian described the work as Apollo resting after his labors with his right arm resting on his head. Right ankle and foot, right knee and area above and below, left kneecap and foot, tree trunk, and base are modern restorations.
