Der Jäger / The Hunter, 2021, from Unternächte.
The headless horseman is a popular figure in German folklore and is said to have appeared in a forest of my home region. Often he is also described as a member of the Wild Hunt.
Washington Irving most likely wrote his draft for Sleepy Hollow on a tour through Europe and got inspired by the folklore he collected during his travels. The figure also appears in Ireland and other countries within Europe.
Since seeing a headless performer on a funfair when I was a small child, I became obsessed with the possibility to live without a head (and maybe with heads in general).

It’s wild thinking that this venture of mine is 3 years old already! It feels like it was only last year that I kicked this off. With a lot in the works I’ve been a bit absent recently, but I’m hoping there’ll be a little more of me around come summer/fall. This is an ode to the oddities that comprise life and how to take each step forward in your own stride :)

Day 15 of the Sew Scary Bat-o-Ween

“Since I am dead I can take off my head to recite Shakespearean quotations”
These bats are well and truly terrifying. Their heads come right off! These are made with a soft black minky and their inner wings and ears are decorated with skeleton animals. At their necks is a black bowtie.
The head and necks of these bats have magnets in them so you can remove the heads, spin them around, or just leave them in place looking like a normal bat with a secret surprise.
