An entry for this months CDC on the theme of Alice in Wonderland.  I went for the March Hare because I’m not letting my many years of hare drawing practice go to waste. I think I submitted it within 1 minute of the deadline, which, to be fair, is better going than previous attempts.
The marble texture on the waistcoat is placeholder until I can make my own marbled paper. You can find the texture here. I really like the idea of using marble paper as a fabric texture. Its commonly found in Victorian book art but also 1960-70′s psychedelic art where I draw a lot of my inspiration. I don’t think I’ve quite got the hang of it but maybe with practice I can marry the two time periods in illustrative harmonious bliss.

I went and saw Alice Through the Looking Glass last night and was absolutely blown away! If you have the chance to see this movie in IMAX or 3D I definitely recommend you do as it completely heightens your experience. Getting to see the backstories to these amazing characters just adds on to the story we already know. The introduction of Time was another great part. I was personally expecting Time to not be a character I would enjoy and was thoroughly surprised as to how much I appreciated his character. Of course Johnny Depp also does a phenomenal job as usual! Overall I greatly recommend the movie to everyone! Let me know if your going to see it and what parts you enjoyed! If you take any pictures share those too!

While I’m sure everybody knows it’s Star Wars Day, Did you all know it’s also Alice in Wonderland Day?

Yes! Here’s the two quotes that tell us exactly when Alice had her dream.

Exhibit one, from chapter 6, Pig and Pepper.

“Alice waited a little, half expecting to see it again, but it did not appear, and after a minute or two she walked on in the direction in which the March Hare was said to live. `I’ve seen hatters before,’ she said to herself; `the March Hare will be much the most interesting, and perhaps as this is May it won’t be raving mad–at least not so mad as it was in March.’ As she said this, she looked up, and there was the Cat again, sitting on a branch of a tree.”

And Exhibit two, from the next chapter, The Mad Tea Party.

“The Hatter was the first to break the silence. `What day of the month is it?’ he said, turning to Alice: he had taken his watch out of his pocket, and was looking at it uneasily, shaking it every now and then, and holding it to his ear.

Alice considered a little, and then said `The fourth.’

`Two days wrong!’ sighed the Hatter. `I told you butter wouldn’t suit the works!’ he added looking angrily at the March Hare.

So, to celebrate, here are some designs I’ve been playing with for a slightly more modern version.
