Heather as Tenel Ka Djo (original Young Jedi Knights outfit) from the Star Wars: Young Jedi Knights series (feat. Nate in YJK Jacen Solo)
I was going to try to finish some YJK armor for Katsucon 2012 but wanted to go with something a little less complicated since I was running out of time and I already had an asscape I wanted to use in a TK costume. It ended up becoming a side-waist-cape sort of thing, but still YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL ABOUT ASSCAPE-LIKE THINGS! I got to reuse my scales from my Tempest costume and in a different fashion even, which was cool. They sort of became shoulder armor instead of straight-up sleeves (still as heavy as ever though, hehe).
YJK costumes also meant I could be pre-Lightsabers Tenel Ka and have both arms present! And pick up random sticks from the beach~
Nate & Heather as Kerith & Jaryn (The Glitterati – Street Style outfits) fromDance Central 2
We wore these to KatsuconandOtakonin2012and loved every minute of it. These two are snark machines and that made photos extremely entertaining to take, hehe. Many thanks to Sonja of @soulfirephotos for the top three photos from Otakon (also mega thanks to her for working around my foot that was messed up/wrapped up that weekend) and @totalefinsternis for the first and last photos in the bottom row from Katsucon! ♡
We would probably wear Glitterati costumes (there are two more after this one!) to more cons and stuff but the makeup for all of them takes patience AND YOU KNOW HOW WE ARE. :\
P.S. We miss Dance Central so much. Especially The Glitterati.
Nate & Heather as James Sunderland & Mary/Maria fromSilent Hill 2
I originally made the half Mary-half Maria costume for Katsucon 2007 and had a ball in it, but had a lot more fun when I was able to fix a lot of it up and wear it to Katsucon 2012 with Nate as James!
We’re planning on wearing SH2 costumes again at some point soon – I’ve been working on a new top for a full Maria costume since I found the skirt from my original Maria costume (from 2002!) and somehow it fits again(!)???
We love this game so much. So so much.
(ALSO BLESS THE GAYLORD FOR HAVING THAT PICTURE IN THEIR HOTEL ROOMS – THE ONE IN THE TOP PHOTO BEHIND NATE’S HEAD. IT’S AN EMPTY BOAT ON A LAKE. YESSSSSsssssssssss.)
Nate & Heather as Oblio (Gearhead outfit) & Miss Aubrey (School Daze outfit) fromDance Central
Have we told you about our feelings for Dance Central? We have many of them. XD
When we played the first game we fell in love with Oblio and Miss Aubrey and we continued to love them even though our FAVORITE CHARACTER spots were taken over by The Glitterati when the next game was released (which is a whole ‘nother story you’ll see in the near future ;D).
We debuted both of these costumes at MAGFest 2012 and wore them here and there since then. We would have worn them more had The Glitterati not been introduced!
(These are also the costumes seen in our tumblr icon! They’ve been there since we started this tumblr! Maybe we should change the icon one day? Cause that’s been a long while now, hehehe.)
Heather as Tenel Ka Djo (original Queen Mother outfit #3 of A BIG NUMBER??? of original outfits) from the Star Wars: Legacy of the Force series (feat. Nate in pre-Caedus Jacen & Nic as Ania Solo! <3)
I was aiming to finish a costume of the image of Tenel Ka on the back of the Fate of the Jedi: Conviction novel for Dragon*Con 2011 but ran out of time with all the other stuff we were trying to put together for the con that year, so I thought WHY NOT JUST MAKE ANOTHER ORIGINAL OUTFIT? So I did.
I’m actually going to do the Conviction outfit someday I WILL, I SWEAR.
I had a lot of fun in this at D*C ‘11 during the giant EU photoshoot and wore it again to Katsucon 2014 where we found a Jaina and Jag(!!!!)/made new friends because of the costumes – so thanks, EU! :D
Nate & Heather as Abraham & Peter McVriesfromStephen King’s The Long Walk (f. Sara as Harkness & Ashley as Art Baker!)
We have lots of feelings for this book.
Heather always had lots of feels re: it (many thanks to her sister for making her read it so many years ago) and she’s spread it to everyone she can manage to spread it to. Off the top of her head she can list at least ten people who have read it because she pushed it on them like a persistent drug dealer – Nate, Ashley & Sara included!
Heather & Ashley started wearing these at Dragon*Con 2007, wore them again at D*C 2008 and were joined at D*C 2009 by Sara and Nate and the four of us subsequently wore them at D*C 2010&D*C 2011 (which is when these photos were taken). Ashley always did kickass makeup for everyone – whether it was post-Walk bullet holes or just a general tired mess – and we always had a lot of fun in these costumes!
We would love to expand on photo ideas for this book – more people, more blood and more feels. AW YESSSSSS
Nate & Heather as Sigma & LunafromZero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward
AtMAGFest 2013 we debuted our VLR costumes which we had finished last minute (naturally, of course – this is us, after all) before the con! For real, we were painting the stuff on Sigma’s jumpsuit like the night before we left. :B
Mega thanks to Jeremy for getting the first, third and last two shots of these costumes! Also, thanks to him for putting up with us when we found the weird sprinkler timers and were like “OMG IT’S LIKE… IS THIS A BOMB WE HAVE TO GET A PHOTO LOLOLULUOULOLOL.” we’re nerds i apologize. D:
Heather as Tenel Ka Djo (original Queen Mother outfit #4 of A BIG DUMB NUMBER of original outfits) from the Star Wars: Legacy of the Force series (feat. Nate as Caedus Jacen & Jesse as Teneniel Djo! <3)
LET’S PLAY A GAME CALLED WHICH ONE OF THESE PHOTOS DOESN’T BELONG
Hint: it’s the third one in the row of three photos SORRY I GAVE IT AWAY.
I originally made and wore this jumpsuit for Dragon*Con 2007. It was the first jumpsuit I ever made, I jacked the zipper up but I was still proud as hell of the thing and pulled it back out for Dragon*Con 2012. As you can see in the single 2007 photo here, I had one of my old lightsabers I made, a different headpiece (I feel like the 2012 one is much more fitting) and didn’t have the capelet thing I made for D*C 2012, which was inspired by the Hapes Consortium symbol that’s also on the patch on the chest of the jumpsuit.
I had a ton of feels in this outfit because it’s a Queen Momma one and Jesse and I were pretty much sobbing the whole SWEU meetup about how Teneniel never got to see her daughter kick ass on the throne, etc. etc.
Nate & Heather as Kerith & Jaryn (The Glitterati – Crew outfits)fromDance Central 2
There are so many pictures of this set of outfits and we’re sorry but our three main Glitterati outfits are three of our favorite things we’ve ever made. ;-;
We learned so many techniques between the Street Style outfits, these and the Haute Blooded ones (which will have a post in the near future – those were the craziest to make!) and we always felt like we could kick lots of ass when dressed as Kerith and Jaryn. They’re so snarky and confident and gorgeous and just sdkafjkdjsfkdjsffkj WE MISS DANCE CENTRAL
We first wore these to Dragon*Con 2012 and that was our last (and Heather’s 10th year attending) D*C so it was nice we went out on costumes we really loved (these and the Young Jedi Knights Jacen Solo & Tenel Ka <333)~
Also, we love things that light up and even though the backs of their crew vests don’t light up in the game, we thought it was a flashy thing that was very them so we added EL panels in the vests to make the GG logo glow. XD
Nate & Heather as Jacen Solo & Tenel Ka Djo from the Star Wars: Young Jedi Knights series
We originally made these a long while ago (Heather’s first version of YJK Tenel Ka was made a bit before her and Nate even met) and have worn and modified them multiple times since. These are two of our favorites characters and we have so much fun in Jacen & Tenel Ka costumes – especially these since the YJK books are close to our hearts.
Nate’s Jacen was originally made worn at Balticon 2010 (the middle photo in the second row is from that con) and then again at both Katsucon&Dragon*Conin2012 (plus a number of out of con shoots and such since then). The version of YJK Tenel Ka seen here was first made and worn at Dragon*Con 2012 (with Jesse & Jean as Teneniel Djo & Ta’a Chume! <3333) and then fixed up (added edging to some of the shoulder armor, remade the scales for parts of the shoulderpiece that were originally made from fabric out of Wonderflex and added lacing to the front of the outer piece of shoulder armor) for an outdoor shoot in 2014, which is where the last photo is from.
This is one of the only Tenel Ka costumes Heather can have her left arm out for and that’s only when she doesn’t have the lightsaber. She’s slipped a couple times in photos with the lightsaber (let’s pretend it’s the first/rushed one, hehehe), but has gotten so used to posing without showing her left arm that she does it in non-Tenel Ka costumes now sometimes as well. XD
Nate & Heather as Finn & Princess Bubblegum fromAdventure Time (with Aphy as Marceline & John as Ash!)
AtDragon*Con2012, Aphy took her awesome makeup skills and painted her and John gray (and gave him amazing hair, heheh) and made me pink. Nate dressed up and ran around yelling things with his tiny Jake. I had a lot of fun creating my handmade Lumpy Space Princess and to this day she still snarks around our house looking judgy. ;)
We haven’t been caught up with AT for a good while now (one day!), but these costumes will always be some of the most amusing sets we’ve worn.
(I remember finding another Bubblegum that night and we fangirled each other mercilessly – GOOD TIMES! :3)
Nate & Heather as Matt Miller & Kinzie Kensington fromSaints Row: The Third
Matt & Kinzie are two of our absolute favorite characters. Not only are they both amazing / hilarious / ridiculous (almost the whole series is ridiculous and that’s a big plus and only adds to the series’ perfection) on their own, but their banter is effin’ majestic. THE SNARK.
We first wore these at Dragon*Conin2012, then again in 2013atMAGFest&PAX East. Nate wore Decker Matt once more at MAGFestin2014when we had a Deckers group (which will be added to this Master Costume List soon). This is also the costume Nate wore for the 2016 Men vs. Cosplay calendar and at PAX East we got to cut in line to see the Saints Row IV preview because we were in costume!
We have had many awesome times and have made many fun memories in these and they opened the floodgates to many other Matt & Kinzie costumes which will have their own posts soon! <3
(HAVE WE MENTIONED HOW PUMPED WE ARE FOR AGENTS OF MAYHEM HOLY CRAP)
We wanted an easy costume at the last minute to wear to Otakon the last time we went – which was 2012 – and we had been marathoning Sgt. Frog (a show we love both the original and dub of :O)… so of course, this happened. We saw a really adorable image of the Keroro Platoon humanized and kind of went off of that (I WISH I COULD FIND IT AGAIN IT WAS DARLING D:)~
This was also the weekend my foot was really messed up and I had to be in a wheelchair throughout the con. SO THERE WAS THAT TOO. (I ate a metric crapton of Pocky as Tamama, btw.)
“A long time ago in the year 2011, Heather scoured eBay for two shirts like the ones Bill Hader wore as Stefon on SNL. She found them. And Nate got them for Christmas that year and wore this to Dragon*Con in 2012.”
Dramatic storytelling about this costume because that’s what this club has. As simple as it is, it was always one of our favorite costumes. We quoted Stefon a lot around the house and we love Bill Hader so this had to happen – plus, I wore a ton of rings in high school so we already had that part of the costume all finished. ;)
We always appreciated that he never got to really read a lot of the things he was going to say before the show so he always had to try not to laugh as he read them for what was occasionally the very first time.
