Hourly Comics Day 2017

It has been a DAY. Somehow managed to scratch out some hourlies this year.

After a November full of horse stories my Instagram is back to sporadic regularly scheduled programming. I don’t really do just one thing at a time so while I was having lots of nostalgic horse feelings I was also writing and drawing and producing a new comic! No Shade of Green: Meditations on Empathy is about my less than stellar history of caring for plants and sometimes people. Still thinking about the amazing studio visit we did with Chris Larson last night in St. Paul! Really inspired by his consideration of space and his process of play. Listening to him talk about his work was a great reminder to always try new things especially if you think you can’t do them and to really trust your instincts. It’s not worth it if it isn’t fun.

Drawing is a lot like exercising in the sense that if you don’t do it regularly it’s easy to feel stiff and unsure of yourself. After the chaos of this summer I’m pretty out of shape. Now that it’s time to dive head first into grad school I’m trying to flex these muscles and just make things without letting the pressure to perform overwhelm me. Getting anything on the page feels kind of like a victory so today I’ll run with that.
