Physician!Merlin.
I have an au for this in my head where Merlin never becomes Arthur’s manservant and instead becomes a fully trained physician. Arthur meets Merlin repeatedly due to various injuries and though his bedside manner leaves a little to be desired Arthur falls for him anyway. Oh an Merlin still travels with them as a combat medic if the need arises. Which judging by Merlin’s destiny and Arthur’s inability to not get knocked out, the need arises fairly often. Also Merlin as a physician gets more respect from everyone, which he really deserves.
I made this so long ago and I still need to read a fic like this… if anyone wants to write one? *bats eyelashes and empties bank account* (I’ll be honest though I’m a fine art photographer so really living the starving artist… though I can share a stale poptart? Or take your photo looking like a medieval knight?)
Or if anyone knows of any fics like this?

Summary: On the surface, Arthur Pendragon seems to be a confident, callous, cavalier arsehole with a culinary degree. But there are just the tiniest suggestions of cracks in that shell that Merlin has glimpsed over the past few weeks… Regardless, there was no way this would end in anything but catastrophe, even if Arthur wasn’t a great big bloody git, because he was Morgana’s brother, and Morgana was Merlin’s boss, and things like that were never wise.
Author’s Note: For the Merlin Fic Book Club Server’s Wip Relay 2022! I was lucky enough to recieve 2,300 words of this story and an outline from illiterateowl. Thank you so much for gifting this lovely wip; I hope it lives up to your expectations!
The recipe for this story as illiterateowl gave to me called for a sappy, sexy, sweet fic about falling in love at first sight over food and romance languages. Being who I am, I ruined this perfectly lovely prompt by adding a heaping cup of enemies-to-lovers, two teaspoons of angst, and enough cheese to make a gay Lifetime movie romcom script. I hope you don’t mind the liberties that I took or that I’m incapable of writing anything that doesn’t include daddy issues and existential crises. (Fortunately, that all mostly comes in chapter 2.)

Merlin looked like his father.

What are the minimum requirements for the Merlin Supernova?
For this event, the minimum requirements are going to be much higher than any of our previous events as it is a ✨Supernova✨
Writers:20,000 words
Artists:8 completed pieces
Podficcers: All written words recorded, SFX are optional
Giffers: 16 recolored gifs with text
Please remember that all of these final totals will be split up into four posts as these will be posted as wips, so you do not have to be 100% completely done in August when posting begins.
Also, if you want to do more than this, you are more than welcome to. There is not a cap on how much you can create.
Additionally, this event is open to everyone.While this is not a rarepair only event, we want to especially encourage rarepair creators to sign up and help us create an explosion of content that is more diverse and inclusive and showcases all the different ships and dynamics that this fandom has.
Sign Ups: What to Expect
Sorcerers(the person providing the idea)
In the general information post I mentioned that there will be about a month to gather your thoughts and come up with a summary for you work.
The month starts when sign ups open (February 1st) and end when sign ups close (March 19th). I know that’s more than a month.
Since we use airtables for everything, we can transfer your summary information into a viewing gallery so that there’s no risk of any information or formatting being lost. It also makes it easier for artists of different mediums to upload their work in a format that suits them.
On the sign up form, there will be a spot to share your summary or artists storyboard.
As a writer, your summary needs to include the general plot (beginning, middle, and end) and any thematic elements that you want an artist to consider to help them visualize what they would create for your story. For instance, is it a space opera? Do they need to be able to draw spaceships? Is it a high fantasy au where they’d need to draw animals and armor? Is it a modern au where they’d need to draw a lot of cars or cityscapes or- You get the idea.
For artists you will need to come up with a storyboard. This is going to be a series of sketches with notes about what’s going on in each scene. You will also need to include the prompt and how you want the story to end.
For giffers you will need to come up with a prompt and provide a summary of the scenes and gifs you plan to make for the story as well as how you want the story to end.
For podficcers, this is going to be a little more difficult for you. You will provide a voice sample and list the special effects you are able to do (include accents). You will also provide a prompt, but yours does not have to have an ending (but you can include one if you want).
The sign up form will also have places to list your main pairing, your planned rating, and any relevant Ao3 tags.
Knights (the collaborator)
This sign up form will be much simpler.
Aside from your contact information, you will also list what medium you intend to participate as (writer, artist, podficcer, giffer). If you do more than one medium you can always change later after you get paired up if you and your partner think that a different medium will fit the story better.
The viewing gallery will be anonymous until after summary claims are over. We want to give everyone an equal opportunity to get claimed and focus on the fanwork rather than play favorites.
Ultimately when it comes to this, we want you all to consider the Sorcerer-Knight pairs as a partnership. You’re working together,not one dictating the other.
Druids(participants who already have a partner)
For those who already have a group, there will be a different form that all of you need to fill out. However only one of you needs to provide your story summary.
There will be a space on the form to list the other members of your group. You will only be counted as a group if everyone fills out the form and lists the same people.
Groups can be up to four members big, but no more than two of one type of medium. For instance, you can have a writer-artist-artist group, a writer-artist-giffer group, etc etc etc.
Am I required to join the Merlin Fic Server?
Nope! You are not required to join the server if you don’t want to. Information, announcements, and reminders will all be handled over email, tumblr, andthe server. There are benefits to the server such as a community and getting to know your fellow Supernova participants, as well as places to discuss your work and find cheerleaders and betas (although beta’s are not required for this).
But no, you are not required to join the server if you’d prefer not to.
when he’s young– not yet old enough to recognize the hate in his father’s eyes for what it is, but old enough that he no longer has reason to sleep in the antechamber of his father’s quarters– arthur sneaks out.
he’s small, and his arms are weak little twigs trying their best to give way to sinewy muscle, and his voice hasn’t dropped, and yet his father’s men still look at him and see a king.
it’s probably why, then, one of them lets him into the lower part of the castle.
“you are not supposed to be here, arthur,” he tells him, even as the door swings open. “it’s far past your bedtime, and besides, you have your training in the morning.”
arthur sets his tiny jaw, raises an eyebrow like he’s seen gaius do before, and the guard just chuckles. “be back in ten minutes, and i won’t tell your father.”
he descends down the stairs, past old catacombs. the torch he’s holding is almost too heavy. he has to hold it with two hands, and the fire is bright and warm and too close.
when he finds the cave, his heart drops.
this is where, he thinks, his father keeps the great dragon. but it’s empty, hollow, the sound of water dripping from stalactites the only sound.
“show yourself,” he commands. it comes out more like a squeak.
the rustling of wings comes moments later. sitting in front of him, with molten eyes and leathery scales, is the scariest thing he’s ever seen. and it chuckles at him.
“hello, my king,” kilgharrah crooks.
“i am not the king,” arthur says. “what, you don’t remember who imprisoned you?”
the dragon just laughs.
“you will do well to remember this, boy.” he tilts his head, eyes squinting as he looks at him. “your time has not yet come to pass. but when the moment is right, you will find your destiny.”
arthur frowns. “i know i am to become king.”
the dragon’s face is twisted in a caricature of amusement. “i did not mean your rule, young prince. you will know when you find him.”
“him?” arthur calls out, as the dragon flaps his wings, disappears into the cave’s depths.
it’s then that he remembers the guard awaiting him. it’s then that the warning bell sounds. arthur is missing from his chambers.
somewhere, between the resulting punishment by the hand of his father and the repeated image of flames on a pyre, arthur wills himself to forget the night he snuck out into the castle’s depths. what do creatures of magic know, after all?
and then.
then, he’s old enough that his teeth have sharpened, his hands have calloused around where they hold swords and torches. then, he’s too young to die, not old enough to have lived, and there’s a dagger being thrown at him from the hands of a grieving sorcerer’s mother, straight to his heart–
you will know when you find him, the dragon had said.
when he looks up into the blue eyes of the boy who just saved his life, the very one he had fought in the marketplace, the same one he had thrown in jail–
shit, he thinks.he can’t tear his eyes away.
