I had a client recently ask me to make a steampunk mechanical bee for her and gave me a photo of a tattoo for reference. This is the result. The wings were a problem as I wanted them light. I ended up cutting down two brass pendant bases and filling them with UV resin. They then had to be sanded back to the brass and finally polished. I was aiming on transparent but the frosting works. Her body is an old brass electrical terminal cut to fit. Her wire legs are threaded through the body for security. The crimps are for effect and to stop the feet scratching if worn as a pendant.
She also contains an assortment of gears, pinions, screws, bolts, rivets, an electrical probe is her “stinger” and her wire antenna do rotate. I hope the client likes her but if not I’ll try again. I’ve already had interest so she will sell either way.
Art for the upcoming Dionysian album- I was really happy with the way we were able to use the logo as her crown. Also, super stoked that the band came to me with the concept of combining classical sculpture and brutalist architecture. A real art history nerd dream project. . . . . . . #collageart #surrealcollage #illustration #bandartwork #metalart #surrealist #megalith #darksurrealism https://www.instagram.com/p/CR6f9xOAfPW/?utm_medium=tumblr

It is also the richest, latest, and most complete of the surviving works of Matthes Deutsch, a successful armorer living in the Bavarian ducal residence of Landshut. The bands along its main edges and down the center of the breastplate bear traces of etched and gilded flowers and foliage set against a fire-blued ground. The breastplate is struck with Deutsch’s armorer’s mark and with the inspection mark of the armorers of Landshut. ~•~ #usa #metalart #museum #armour #horse #knight (à Philadelphia Museum of Art) https://www.instagram.com/p/CO0gj1rHA3H/?igshid=10intypwinbr7

The Metropolitan Museum of Art. @metarmsandarmor ~•~ This armor is a deluxe version of a typical cuirassier’s armor, worn by heavy cavalry armed with sword and pistols. Its rich ornament and light weight, however, indicate that it was designed primarily for ceremonial wear and as a symbol of martial status. The punched and chiseled decoration is characteristic of elaborate Milanese armor of the early seventeenth century. The designs include numerous crowned ovals enclosing bees, the badge of the Barberini, one of Rome’s most powerful families. The Barberini rose to prominence, wealth, and power with the election of Maffeo Barberini as Pope Urban VIII in 1623. Presumably, this armor was made for the ranking secular member of the family, either Carlo (1562–1630) or his son Tadeo (1603–1647). The pope’s brother, Carlo was general of the papal armies and duke of Monterotondo from 1623 and prince of Palestrina from 1629. Taddeo succeeded to his father’s titles and offices in 1630. ~•~ Merci beaucoup pour les photos T.
