I had a client recently ask me to make a steampunk mechanical bee for her and gave me a photo of a tattoo for reference. This is the result. The wings were a problem as I wanted them light. I ended up cutting down two brass pendant bases and filling them with UV resin. They then had to be sanded back to the brass and finally polished. I was aiming on transparent but the frosting works. Her body is an old brass electrical terminal cut to fit. Her wire legs are threaded through the body for security. The crimps are for effect and to stop the feet scratching if worn as a pendant.
She also contains an assortment of gears, pinions, screws, bolts, rivets, an electrical probe is her “stinger” and her wire antenna do rotate. I hope the client likes her but if not I’ll try again. I’ve already had interest so she will sell either way.
Oh bliss! Bliss and heaven! Oh, it was gorgeousness and gorgeousity made flesh. It was like a bird of rarest-spun heaven metal or like silvery wine flowing in a spaceship, gravity all nonsense now. As I slooshied, I knew such lovely pictures!
It’s the one year anniversary since I started my fancomic, “Phantom in the Mirror,” and so I made a short promo for it for funsies lol. The comic’s all done (it’s my pinned post).
It started when I wanted to learn how to draw more stylized backgrounds, so I drew Vlad’s manor. I went on to collect a bunch of style guides/background art for the show and studied them so I could learn how to make the backgrounds. Then I thought, “this would be pretty cool to see how Phantom in the Mirror would look in the show’s style.” So I did this…
Sketched out a little character idea based on a dream. She’s a saboteur mouse who’s renaissance era world is being taken over by giant clockwork owls. Her name is Hickory. She has a clockwork heart which allows her to do extraordinary leaps and run super fast when she needs to get out of a bad situation.
