L is the wagon leader and Near, Mello, Matt, and Beyond are the party members.
I chose the carpenter from Ohio (medium difficulty).
I decided to leave in April (March was too early without any grass for the oxen to eat, but I want to arrive before winter sets in).
I had $800 to spend at the general store. (It was called Matt’s General Store lol)
I bought:
6 oxen ($120)
2000 lbs of food ($400)
15 sets of clothing ($150)
10 boxes of ammunition ($20)
3 each of spare wagon wheels, axels, and tongues ($90)
I had $20 leftover.
I set the food rations to meager and the pace to strenuous (both medium difficulty).
Time to hit the Oregon Trail!!
April 1, 1848- The party leaves Independence
April 3- Matt has measles and one of the oxen is injured. It’s been two fucking days.
April 17- Beyond gets lost. Lose 3 days.
April 23- Matt has dysentery. Big oof. Gonna stop to rest his sick little ass. (literally )
April 27- First day back on the trail and Near has a broken leg.
May 3- Near has died. Of a broken leg.
May 9- Beyond has measles. Rested for 2 days.
May 14- Bad water and inadequate grass. One of the oxen has died.
May 19- Beyond has typhoid. Probably from the bad water.
May 24- Party health is now very poor. Decide to keep going and see how things go. Immediately, one of the oxen gets injured.
May 25- The ox has died.
May 29- Beyond has cholera. STOP DRINKING THE BAD WATER.
June 4- Mello has a fever. Rested a week because he is very dramatic and refused to go on.
June 17- Impassable trail. Lose 10 days. More bad water. Beyond, I swear to God…
June 28- oh my god
July 2- Beyond has died.
July 5- Matt has a snakebite. Of course he does.
July 11- We’ve been robbed.
July 22- Sent L out to hunt. He shot a 171 pound bear but could only carry 100 pounds back to the wagon. Apparently Matt and Mello couldn’t be bothered to help.
July 29- Attempted to ford Snake River. Was unsuccessful. The water was 3.8 feet deep. I call bullshit.
Spent the next couple weeks in heavy fog with inadequate grass and little water.
August 13- Matt has exhaustion.
August 16- Matt has died. He was tired.
September 1- L arrives at the Willamette Valley all alone and in very poor health.
