what do they drink in minecraft

let’s face it, the variety of drinks available in canon minecraft is very disappointing. plain water, potions, and…. that’s it. luckily, we have the base ingredients, so let’s theorize what players would actuallydrink in minecraft (using only canon-available ingredients), and go a little bit beyond the obvious hot chocolate.

dandelion-glistering melon tea- dandelion tea already exists IRL, so it’s clear that people would drink it here. it’s earthy, mild, and good either hot or iced. mixing it with glistering melon would provide obvious health benefits, but it would also add more sweetness.

fruit juices- melon, glistering melon, apple, berry, and even carrot juice are all available and very tasty! maybe golden carrot juice would be the minecraft version of soylent?

pine-sweetberry tea- pine tea has a really intense flavor, so i’d imagine it’s often cut with sweet berries to make it more palatable. it’s high in tannins- the thing that makes black tea and red wine taste “dry”- which further makes it hard to like. however, if you live in a cold area, you’re bound to start liking it sooner or later.

oxeye daisy tea- as a close cousin of chamomile, oxeye daisies can also be used in tea and have a similar taste! add in some honey and milk for a good bedtime drink.

netherwart tea- i hc this as tasting like licorice, but salty and sour. it’s probably incredibly offputting, but experienced brewers would find the taste enjoyable. it also probably interacts terribly with potions unless you know what you’re doing, making this truly a drink for potionmasters only.

cinnamon-blaze tea- expanding on the idea of potion-teas, blaze tea is strongly spicy and intense. though the pure version is enjoyed by potioneers as a mark of their devotion to the craft, it’s often cut with the soft, inner bark of the jungle tree- aka, with cinnamon! the sweet, gentler spice of cinnamon provides a better main show for the eye-watering burn of blaze powder to fade into, making it a more palatable drink.

mulled apple cider- apple juice is an obvious jumping off point, but assuming that jungle trees are cinnamon, mulled apple cider would be an excellent warm drink! sweet, spiced, and cozy, this would be a favorite for those in colder areas.

rosehip tea- this is one you’ve probably heard of in real life! since we have access to roses, rosehips are a natural conclusion. rosehips are the sweet fruit of rosebushes, and their tea is very tasty indeed.

dandelion wine- a ferment made of dandelion flowers, honey, and water. this has a very low alcohol content, and people usually drink it for the taste. it looks like sunlight! emmymade has a really good video on it

beer- hops is not actually a necessity in the brewing process, and a mixture of boiled herbs called gruit was used before it. therefore, alcohol in its most familiar form is readily available to minecraft people!

cider- fermented fruit drinks are also available! made with apples, berries, or even melons, fermenting fruit and then filtering it is a centuries-old concept, and anyone can do it, though with some risk to their liver.

other edible flowers in minecraft are cornflowers, lilacs, peonies (notable for being candied and eaten by certain chinese cultures!), azure bluets, and tulips (which have a sweet and milky tasting bulb when eaten fresh). not all of these would be good in tea, but instead would be better in salads, candied as snacks, or used in sweets. the exception to this is alliums, which are actually wild onions/garlic. the entire plant is edible, and would be a fantastic accompaniment to any savory dish.

I was gonna write a thing on additional minecraft drinks: Nether edition but my brain did not cooperate so have a concept art-y page on minecraft drinks. Since actual teas and brews are mostly Clear Amber Liquids I decided to do a more fantastical take on them

Random minecraft things I think about/ doesn’t get addressed enough

- you are at the tail end of an apocalypse were millions, if not billions of living things have died, but yet the world is slowly healing (even without bringing up all the theories, there’s still plenty of evidence that something happened in the past)

- you can just…casually visit the family friendly equivalence of hell?

- the player can (and, depending on how long you’ve played, most likely has at one point) cannibalised (rotten flesh is still technically human right?)

- either that or feeding dogs, once wild animals, that same rotten flesh

- is the world really infinite or is it just a representation of a medieval person’s lack of understanding how big the world really is?

- same with some mob designs. Actual creatures or some kind of interpretation? (If you’ve seen medieval pictures of animals then you’ll know what I mean)

- considering the usage of souls, the rampant undead and everything else tied to it, necromancy likely isn’t as taboo as in other fiction.

- cave sounds are probably a sign of past trauma

- fossils are big. Far too big. What made them?

- pigs are a dominant species

- a nether portal leading to a snowy biome could create a temperature drop so extreme it could probably kill people with certain health conditions

First art of 2022 (+detail shot) let’s goooooo

I hope everyone had a happy new year! I figured I’d start the year off right with a piece that’s been on my mind since the middle of December. Not gonna lie, drawing the god rays & water surface ripples was a massive pain. So was designing an ocean monument that wasn’t just made of blocks, but was still recognizably an ocean monument.

Fun fact: I specifically chose the background colors here off the wiki page for Warm Ocean. The rest of the colors were almost completely improvised.

General Zombie Headcanons

• Zombies are a complex part of history. As far back as every historian is aware they have been there. Always a monster lurking in the dark, ready and all too eager to turn you into a snack, always a stumbling groaning cautionary tale to all those who see them.

• But despite them being a common nightmare to deal with… nobody was quite sure WHY they exist. Nor how they even came to be. Who was the first person to become zombified? Where did the zombie virus even originate from? Nobody truly knows for sure. All we have are tall tales and folklore.

• But one thing we do know is that zombies crave ‘human’ flesh. Meaning they only see Villagers or Players as possible food sources, despite not technically needing food since they’re not alive. They have no desire to eat any kind of other meat source. Some scientists speculate that there’s something in them that can only be sated by the flesh of human-esque entities. Though the validity of this is still up for debate.

• Another thing we know is that the thing that actually turns human-esque beings into zombies is a type of virus. Specifically an airborne one that thankfully doesn’t effect any creatures in either the Overworld or the End. Though it is immediately fatal to Nether creatures upon internal contact (aka by breathing it in).

• Scientists conclude that generations of genetic immune system strengthening is to thank for the fact that Overworlders/End Beings being immune. Currently the only way for a Villager or a Player to contract the Zombie Virus is through the skin directly, aka with a bite or zombie blood transfer through any kind of scrape or cut.

• Zombies also seem to have a much lower brain function than your average bipedal aggressive mob. The only thing that seems to drive them is the desire for player/villager meat. They don’t seem to have any kind of survival instinct in place to keep them ‘alive’. It’s common knowledge that luring a zombie into the sun is the easiest thing to do. While other hostile mobs avoid the things that hurt them, zombies do not.

• Instead they will stand there and burn until they perish if a human they caught sight of is out in the sun. However skeletons (who also burn in sunlight) have been seen seeking shade or bodies of water when the sun is out, to avoid death, regardless on if they were attacking a human previously. Proving they have a sense of survival.

• And while it’s been scientifically proven that there’s some part of the individual’s soul left in each zombie, whatever is left is so fractured and incomplete that they cannot recognize or function in any way how they did when alive. That is why it is common practice to quickly take out any turned loved ones, lest you fall to their attacks. The less time you give yourself to feel pain over their tragic death the smaller the chance you’ll succumb to your grief. You have to kill them, no matter who they were to you.

• It is the kindest thing we can offer these poor wretched creatures now.
