While I do get the complaint that Boruto characters tend to look and/or act like copies of their parents a lot, I don’t think enough people are giving it credit for giving them different dynamics with each other
Like, Sarada isn’t Boruto’s rival, nor is she his crush the way Sakura was for Naruto. Mitsuki is one of their best friends, not their sworn enemy, and he doesn’t have a hint of Orochimaru’s obsession with the Uchiha bloodline. If anything, Mitsuki has more parallels to Sai than Orochimaru himself, but even they’re not exactly one-to-one
I mean, Sarada’s best friend from childhood is Choji’s daughter of all people, and neither of their parents had any particular relationship with each other. Yeah there are cases with more obvious parallels as well but you gotta hand it to them for putting in the effort to do something new with their main characters
“Mitsuki is really forward about his feelings for Boruto” is a slight misconception, I think
Don’t get me wrong, he is pretty obvious, but the term “forward” suggests that he’s trying to… do something about it. Which he really isn’t. Sure, he follows Boruto around a lot and tends talk about (or to) him with flowery language, but not once has he said anything about wanting a particular relationship with him.
Which is why portrayals where Mitsuki is the one to act first always feel a bit out of character for me; I don’t think Boruto reciprocating his exact feelings is a priority for him. Heck, sometimes he talks like he’s not even sure what he feels for Boruto, other than it clearly being positive. And at least for now, that seems to be enough for him.
However, it does make the ship even funnier to me, because here’s the thing: if asking Boruto out is barely a consideration in Mitsuki’s mind, and if Boruto isn’t introspective enough to realize he even likesMitsuki,thenhow in the world are they gonna end up together
