“It’s done,” Monty whispers as he places the last of his friends in cryosleep. He feels Harper intertwine their fingers and smiles sadly. “Are you sure about this?” he asks as he turns toward her.

Her smile is equally sad and Monty understands it well. They’re letting their friends go to live for themselves. “I am if you are. I’m tired of fighting all the time. I just want to be with you.”

His throat tightens and there’s a familiar burning behind his eyes. “I love you, Harper,” he whispers. Lifting their joined hands, Monty presses his lips to the back of her hand. “You’re all I want.” Harper’s eyes brighten and it’s enough to tell Monty that they’ll be okay.
