The final comic I had planned for that planetarium show. It’s mostly there to lead up to what a black hole is by stating clearly what it is not.
A black hole is not…
A vacuum cleaner—Unless you get close to a black hole (say within 3 radii of a non-rotating black hole’s radius of circumference) orbiting it works mostly the same as any other celestial body.
A very dense object – The physical scales of stellar black holes are similar to neutron stars, but unlike a neutron star, a black hole is a space-time region, not a solid object with a density and definite volume.
A 2D hole or funnel – black holes are space-time objects and so are more properly thought of as 4D objects*.
A portal to another realm – only idealized black holes that have existed forever and have no matter anywhere in them can have wormholes that lead to other places. A real black hole you try to jump through would 1) have formed at some point and 2) have matter in it because you just jumped into it.
*As an aside, this why those people who tell you “a black hole event horizon never forms” or “events inside a black hole never happen” are wrong. The event horizon isn’t just a spatial surface, it’s a space-time hypersurface. You might not see it from an infinitely far distance away, but it is real, and it is still there. It’s just that you’re occupying a 3D slice of the 4D space-time that doesn’t include it. You go into a black hole and you will find it there, and see the events that happen inside a black hole, just as you can’t see Tokyo from NYC, but cross over the horizon far enough and there it will be.**
**Oh dope, did I just explain what an event horizon is using the example of the perspective horizon? Well, actually that’s why it’s called an event horizon, silly.
(I apologize in advance if this is choppy/poorly paced! I had to boil this down quite a bit because I’m not much of a writer and I have trouble organizing my thoughts… ♂️)
But secondly: in regards to Connor’s acts, I think that people in this fandom need to be reminded that all everyone in this image…
…ended up hanging from this wall that Connor stands so proudly in front because they committed suicide so as to prevent him from getting their hands on him. The only exception is Ripple, and that’s because Connormurderedher.
And this isn’t even Connor’s full pre-Crossroads kill count! We’re missing Emma, Kara, Alice, the Kitchen Android, and Chloe. Hell, at this point, you can even count Hank into that number even if he hasn’t actually pulled the trigger yet.
(Connor’s max kill count in a single run is twenty-seven. Please remember that the next time someone calls him an innocent cinnamon roll.)
Not to mention that, even if Connor doesn’t kill any of these people, his very existence drives them to extremes just to escape from him - because Connor is a relentless force that will not let you go unless you make him. I mean… I get that Connor is being used and manipulated by Amanda/CyberLife. But do you think that mattered to Kara and Alice, who fled across a highway because they considered that to be the safer option that being captured by him. Or Rupert, who was driven from his home in a thinly veiled ICE raid metaphor? Or Echo and Ripple, who knew that they’d have to go through him if they were to have any chance of getting out of their living hell alive?
I’ve literally had someone try to tell me that because they didn’t know about Connor’s manipulation, none of these deviants that are strung up on this wall like Connor’s taxidermied hunting prizes had no right to judge him because they didn’t know/understand all the horrors of what he’s been through. Or that Connor isn’t actually associated with CyberLife even if his fucking catchphrase is “I’m the android sent by CyberLife.”
The amount of hoops that people will jump through to defend Connor astounds me sometimes.
i have a theory that connor probablyyyykilled more deviants than just the 27 we saw in dbh.
there’s no indication that daniel’s case was the first case connor ever went on, or that shaolin’s case was the second case connor was sent to investigate. there’s surely more cases that happened between august-novemeber, and considering Amanda implied herself that CyberLife was trying to keep the “deviant problem” under wraps and away from the media, it isn’t far-fetched to assume connor’s killed more deviants than he claims.
this explains why deviants are so afraid of him, and why markus says that connor is a “famous deviant hunter.” it would also explain why jericho consists of so little androids, considering that androids have been deviating as early as 2032 (i believe kara is the first canonical instance of an android deviating).
also, random side note, but this has been bothering me for ages. why did CyberLife only send one connor at a time to solve deviant cases? we know they had a whole slew of connor bodies to use, so why not just assign all 10 connors to different police members to solve the problem of deviancy quicker?

SOMETHING happened to tumblr between 2018 and 2020 that turned it from a warzone to a tolerable shitposting website and my one best guess has always been that the p/orn ban sent so many people packing to twitter that we ended up exporting all our native-grown gremlins to the bird site. I back this theory up by the fact that all batshit fandom drama I hear about these days comes from twitter.

I know like everyone is taking about the casting of Annabeth as black, which I’m more than ok with. but ever since she was cast, I know we’ve all seen the blatant racism, but I’ve also noticed art of white Annabeth (still a valid interpretation) or white cosplayers are getting flooded with comments along the lines of
“this is EXACTLY how I pictured Annabeth”
“this is MY Annabeth”
“the true Annabeth”
we all know what you are trying to communicate even if you aren’t saying it diesctly. stop it.
and for everyone who is saying “I’d be just as upset is they casted a POC character as white!” I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and say you would.

it’s important that Leo is Mexican because his grandfather went to a school for colored children, where he met Hazel.
it’s important that Hazel is black because of the culture shock she gets when she comes to the 2000s in terms of racism.
it’s important that Frank is Chinese because it is how he is decended from Neptune.
it’s important that Piper is Cherokee because she carries all the lessons and parables she got from her uncle with her throughout her story.
it’s not important that Annabeth is white because the only thing important about her appearance is that people underestimate her because of it. you know a demographic that is often disrespected and underestimated for their appearance? black people, especially black women.
Leah Jeffries is not a “diversity hire” and it absolutely disgusting behavior to say she is. she is a twelve year old girl who already has an acting career and worked hard to get where she is.
