renegade-chaos-druid:

Reingard Volg (Empire turned Apostate of Nurgle Character concept)

Using the Realm of Chaos books, Volg rolled up as his starting retinue…..

Skaven.

5 skaven.

So having done that, the “official” head cannon for this guy; Regiment was wiped out by a plague he alone survived, seeing this, the skaven orchestrators of said plague took him to be favored or a sign of some sort and thus approached him.

Which went about as well as you would think.

Officially, Volg is being hunted by the Empire he was once loyal to because only a heathen in league with dark powers could survive such a plague that wiped out all his men.
The truth is, after Volg came screaming into town about ‘Rats that look like men’ he was declared Apostate and a danger to the Empire. (Rats that are men? Bah! Impossible!)

Now Volg treks ever northward towards the waiting embrace of Nurgle the one who truly “Saved” him followed by 5 ratmen who are convinced this guy has some sort of special quality about him and drive him ever more insane with their presence that everyone else denies.

((Doodles of the five miscreates))

Having a lazy weekend, so I thought I’d strip some more old hammer rescue minis. First up this plastic and metal razorback. Pretty dinged up but still almost all of its bits.

3 metal Wraithguard. These dead guys are pretty heavy.

Good old metal Eldrad
(Though its base just says Farseer)
And the top hallves of 2 jacketed Eldar from jetbikes apparently.

Some Swooping Hawks. Only actually had to clean 1 of these. The others I done think were ever built, given their lack of bases and tabs still being on the wings.

Metal guardians. Some have weapons cast on. Some have no arms. A couple of them are suffering from pitting. The post clean colour difference on some of them is odd. Different levels of tin in the mix?

And finally a bunch of single pose and arms off plastics.
Whatever the hell that yellow paint is, it utterly refuses to be fully cleaned with any of my standard methods. Simple green, iso and sonic cleans. Still it remains :P

This came today. It’s ca. 1993, so right at the beginning of 2nd edition

Sort of surprised to see it was made in U.S.A.

Also, note the banner technique they advertise there; seems like one might just cut the colored one right off the box–I cut the banners out of my 3rd ed Dark Angels codex back in the day

Haven’t had much time to paint lately, consequently I feel this blog has made a shift from warhammer painting to warhammer collecting

Got this one in the mail today, always one of my favorite Space Marines miniatures, also I think quintessentially “3rd ed”

Couple points:

1, copyright 2000, older perhaps than many of you

2, made in USA, strange, I usually think of these as made in the UK

3, $10.00. In case there are any doubts about Games Workshop’s pricing philosophy, here’s that adjusted for inflation, even after the economic rollercoaster of the last few years:

Empire Regimental Mascot! Loved painting this Middlehammer classic over the last day. Unfortunately there was a varnish snafu, hence the white bits here and there. Should have waited for a warmer day, I suppose!
