Necromundu: Underhive Wars (2020) by Rogue Factor

Looking at the trailer and promotional material for this video game you would be forgiven for thinking it was some sort of ultra-violent dating reality show where competitors are eliminated through rounds of live ammunition laser/bullet tag.

Collectively the Escher gang tick off a lot of bingo boxes, and so much screen time you would think the game was supposed to be entirely about them and not the *checks notes*  the six core gangs, five or six other factions, and four extra gangs invented for the sequel tabletop game “Necromunda: Underhive”.

This is probably in part because the base game only has three playable gangs, and clearly they chose Escher for the sex appeal angle, and Goliaths for the weird hypermasculinity… but they really… really lean into one of those:

How’s that working out for them…

I can’t help but think that perhaps the fashion bras, skin-tight pants are not really conveying the Escher gang as a people of amazons from a sub-society where their men are generally physically feeble and unable to defend their territory.  Maybe it’s several decades overdue for a reinvention.  Possibly at a conceptual level that forgoes the assumption of patriarchy being the default.

I’m sure Games Workshop is working on that… oh no…

Griffin Island, GW’s 1987 version of Avalon Hill’s 1986 wilderness adventure campaign supplement for 3rd ed RuneQuest, both revised and expanded from Chaosium’s 1981 Griffin Mountain (Angus Fieldhouse cover art).  “Griffin Mountain” remains a location that can be found on Griffin Island.  This campaign exists outside RQ’s original setting of Glorantha, and orcs are a major faction on the island instead of trollkin and broo.

Some sigmar/fantasy time now. As you may have guessed after my last post, I visited the parents place yesterday and was able to go through some boxes from move twoish years ago that for some reason didn’t make it to the next apartment.

So here is the free slaughter priest model from the first White Dwarf after the reformat. Never intent to expand him into anything but I had fun painting him. I don’t often get to do large amounts of flesh or anything chaosy (blood, corrosion, heresy…blam!)

Tactical Sgt. Leandros of the 244th Company, 24th Chapter of the Ultramarines Legion ( circa006.M31 non colorized…ha).

So unfortunately the bulk of my Ultramarines 30k army (including nearly 100 infantry/command of various forms, two sicarans, two land raiders, and several various pattern dreadnoughts) were recently accidently lost/given away during a move. With little hope of getting them back, I’m having to slowly rebuild with what still remained (basically the unpainted stuff which were separate and some of which has been previously pictured on this blog). Today I was lucky enough to discover that I still had a build and primed squad of mk4 tacticals and a few cataphractii termis sitting on my old desk at my parents place. Here is the sgt i had built a few years ago when calth came out. I like to try and make all my sgts/leaders custom to help them stand out and seem like a true hero of the imperium. I’ve done various forms in different armies of the powerfist holding a sword to give me options haha (don’t worry, I always tell my opponent which it is meant to be and have made little counters to put beside/on/with the model when I play to denote what he is armed with.)

waxlermon:

A space Wolf lone wolf I did for fun once upon a time. He was built by scavanging from a few of the millions of spare spruces that a former roommate had lying around (seriously he had whole armies lying forgotten in these piles).

I’ve always loved the wolves athestic, and wanted this to be the start of a small army of them to paint for fun. So far I’ve only added a single pack of grey wolves (I’ll see if I can find a few pictures of them lying around).

The fluff was that a contingent of Harold Deathwolfs great company had been deployed to the Tracian system to aid the Imperial forces in the civil war against the forces of chaos that had engulfed the system for the better part of the last century. They were joined by fellow astartes from the Lamenters (led by Capt Hall of he third company), the entirety of the Disciples Chapter which calls the Tracian system their home, and a few squads of Novamarines. I still promise I will do a big fluff write up someday…

Sorry I don’t have any better pics on hand for this pack of grey hunters but you can get the gist. I wanted to do Deathwolfs hearldy on each pad but personally avoid transfers as much as I can so each one was done free hand. I feel they came out acceptably. Someday I want to add a few more packs and a dread or two.

Hey all, sorry for the radio silence. I have a few submissions that’ve been waiting much too long for me! I’ll be doing those every couple days, as to not completely spam the tag.

Feel free to submit and we’ll get this ball rolling again!
