Hag Priestess from Age of Sigmar

While Games Workshop has been improving with Warhammer 40,000 depictions of women (in places) they seem to pretty much have decided that Age of Signmar  (ie the rebranded Warhammer Fantasy universe) is traditional fantasy and that means bikini armorforeveryoneempowered, young afab women (especially if they’re evil),

This seems to apply equally whether the product be RPGortabletop game.

But perhaps most entertaining about this is the use of the term “hag” - particularly given the please that they tend to hold in mythology and fantasy. I have yet to meet a woman who enjoys fantasy and doesn’t take delight in the idea that they grow old and withered, they will attain a special kind of power.

Really not sure what convinced GW that it was a good idea to say “okay, we’ll call her hag… but she’s like… hot and wearing a glued on metal bikini… and she’s holding like a giant cup like blood might spill over her… body at any moment…”

And some more fantasy! This is the painted side of my empire army for Age of Sigmar/Warhammer Fantasy, and currently my only army for the system (I had ogres/Giants painted to go with my empire as mercs and a high elf army though unfortunately neither are mine any more through trades and being lost in moves). I started collecting them back in 6ed with the Empire vs Orcs starter set. Some of the models (see spearmen, swordsmen and handgunners) were painted then when I was about 13 years old and are just…just not good. Then there was a gap of about 8 years before I started them up again with some more state troops, greatswords, a cannon, and some wizards. Someday I’ll bring them all up to the same standard but they fit together well enough for now.

The army did have a large reserve of incoming reinforcements (built but not painted) in the form of 6 demigryff knights, Karl franz on deathclaw, a few more wizards, 40 more state troopers, and 4 more artillery pieces (a mortar, two hell blasters, and a hellstorm battery) but they were all in a box that somehow didn’t survive a move and (though he denies they are my models) are now in a former roommate army…

I don’t mind age of sigmar and it is great for a laid back and stress free type of game but I must say I miss old fantasy. It had its problems, sure, but being the history nerd that I am, I loved seeing my blocks of troops carefully positioned to intercept the enemy’s charge in true Landsknecht atire. Sadness

Some sigmar/fantasy time now. As you may have guessed after my last post, I visited the parents place yesterday and was able to go through some boxes from move twoish years ago that for some reason didn’t make it to the next apartment.

So here is the free slaughter priest model from the first White Dwarf after the reformat. Never intent to expand him into anything but I had fun painting him. I don’t often get to do large amounts of flesh or anything chaosy (blood, corrosion, heresy…blam!)

Tzeetch army officially underway!

First three test models, I’m going to keep spamming pink horrors until I find a pink recipe which doesn’t look awful.

Reasons you might like the setting of Age of Sigmar more than Warhammer 40,000

- There’s no doomsday clock. No incoming Hive Fleets, no malfunctioning Golden Throne. Just good ol’ rough and tumble until the orruks come home.

- There’s no dominant culture. Lightning Daddy, Tree Mum, and Crazy Uncle Bones are all legitimate deities worshipped by the good guys. There are different styles of architecture and culture. Different races coexist peacefully. No Imperium Dominatus here!

- There’s hope. There aren’t any dying races, or stagnant empires. Chaos was ascendant, Order is currently ruling the roost, and it looks like Death is going to make a go of it soon. Anything can happen.

- Skaven. Praise the Great Horned Rat!
